The founders never intended that there be an electoral college -- never! It was a last-minute compromise at the 1787 Constitutional convention designed to placate the southern states because a majority of their people were slaves, who could not vote. The Electoral College is first and foremost a lingering remnant of slavery and as such should be done away with.

In any reasonably balanced US poll you would expect this issue to split at least somewhat close to the middle. the Right tends to attend to this stuff a little more than the left...but there are more people to the left.

So what you are left with is that the CD populations is biased right compared to the US population.
No, C-D represents America, because people from all over America post on this site.

our voting system is NOT the best-- in fact sometimes embarrassing we have so much MONEY and our elections are third world quality- the electoral vote does not have really hard rules and the states change the rules we we go-- as in MY state wanting to be the first to nominate--moved the date to march making it a horribly long process but:
In 2016, Florida had 29 electoral votes, which was 5.4 percent of the 538 electoral votes up for grabs and 10.7 percent of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the general election.
Between 1900 and 2016, Florida cast votes for the winning presidential candidate 76.67 percent of the time. In that same time frame, Florida supported Democratic candidates for president more often than Republican candidates, 56.67 to 43.33 percent. The state has voted for the winning presidential candidate in every election between 2000 and 2016.
Presidential primary elections in Florida took place on March 15, 2016. Hillary Clinton won the Democratic primary with 64.4 percent of the vote. Donald Trump won the Republican primary with 45.7 percent.

It is truly unfortunate that this falsity has gained so much traction. The EC was NOT a last minute addition, the issue was debated throughout the course of the Convention. Many schemes were debated, including election of the President by the Senate, but the EC became the agreed compromise. The formulation of the EC related to slavery by first not allowing the southern states to count all slaves in allocation of representatives, and second , by enabling a mechanism under taxing authority to tax slavery out of existence.
Nor are Electors, IN ANY WAY, permitted or authorized to determine "qualifications" of candidates, except in the very narrow qualifications in Article Two. Any other activity by an Elector is unconstitutional and void.
There is zero need to modify or eliminate the EC, but there is serious need for compliance with the way that it was and is Constitutionally constructed.
The way to make the EC count more reflective of "popular" sentiment would be to allocate Electoral votes by Congressional district in every state. That would require state voters to do, since Congress has no authority to do so.

It is well past time to scrap it. Every American's vote should be treated equally.

Keep it.

Even if you don't like Trump, a tyranny of a handful of densly populated cities at the expense of half the population with radically different needs would be a tragedy of dystopic proportions.

Even with the ostensible advantage the EC gives states with smaller populations, it is not like the democrats have been left out of the political process over the last two centuries. Not by a long shot.

Remember when democrats were bragging that it would be next to impossible for a Republican/Trump to win the Presidency because of the electoral college? Good times.

Keep it! Our forefathers knew what they were doing, and it became even more evident in this election.

Now, we all know those pouting liberals would want to change again if their candidate was kicked to the curb the way Hillary Clinton was.

The real shock from the county-level results is how much of a landslide it was for Trump. If you were just listening to the mass media, you would have been lead to believe the outcome was much more balanced. But as we know, the mass media and firms like Facebook and Twitter lean left.

Therefore, you’ve got to constantly be aware of potential bias and think for yourself.

How can there be such a county-level landslide victory for Trump when Hillary won the popular vote? The answer simply lies in demographics. (shown below).

The left underestimated the desire of people living in the gray areas to want something other than a career politician. With globalization, a lot of people living in the gray areas have not been able to take advantage of the economic boom while the people in the blue area's did.
