Sure, that's how PP started. As Sanger started what became PP, the Reproductive health services centers & eventually clinics started out in or near the ethnic or ghetto areas of major cities. That's where the population to serve was, & that's where PP started. What you're noting is that the population of the inner cities changed over time - & PP continued to serve the population that was there.

Sanger's interest was helping the low-income, likely low-formal-education populations that lived in those areas. She always figured that middle-income & wealthy women already had the means to avoid pregnancy if they wanted to, & the means to abort or deliver & adopt out the baby, if they wanted to do that. (& BTW, she never liked abortion - she preferred adopting out, I assume.)

As for the rates of children in poverty to Caucasian v. children in poverty in inner cities in the US, I'll add it to the research agenda. There's a lot to go through though, so it may be a while.

Percent of children in poverty, by race/ethnicity:

Black: 36%
American Indian: 34%
Hispanic: 31%
Asian/Pacific Islander: 13%
White: 12%

Children in poverty by race and ethnicity
PP should be in rural areas. women should not have to travel hundreds of miles to get health care. PP is a medical provider for women and men's health services. they locate in cities because they can service more people. we need more PPs not less.

you don't answer the question. do you think minority women are stupid? do you think because there is a PP around the corner that when they become pregnant they will have an abortion because the location is convenient?

Margret sanger has been dead for a long long time. an education from a non biased source would do you good to know what she really said and what has been twisted to suit an anti choice agenda.

the question again, do you think minority women are so stupid and easily led, they would abort because they see a PP building on their way to work?

Humans suck. We are good at craving sex for the purpose of mere survival. And then when our population exceeds available resources, we kill each other (war).

Only the best/smartest 50% of the population should be having children. Period. The rest should be sterilized.
100% agree^^^

They're not, though. And even though that's where poor Whites live, we don't have an egregiously high rate of White kids in poverty as we do Black and Hispanic children. So clearly, lack of education and/or lack of access to women's health care and PP's abortion services are NOT what's driving the very high rates of poverty among minority children or those commonly used excuses would impact Whites, as well. There's something else going on.

It should be noted by all that the above statement is horse hockey. Planned Parenthood targets men and women needing reproductive health care. Planned Parenthood locates in inner-city areas because that's where the greatest need is.

Any other explanation is just idiotic histrionics.

Honestly, I'd rather have my best friend from high school - who had an abortion at 16 and who now is a terrific mom to three kids - taking care of children than someone who is so close-minded they can't grasp the fact that people grow and change.

Sounds like the "pro-life" mantra in reverse - they'll fight like hell to make abortion illegal, but won't contribute toward the support of those children once they're born.

Nobody's OK with it because the connection is all in your head.

It "just so happens" that Black women need a 5 times higher abortion rate than White women? Why? Public Health Dept Family Planning Clinics are more concentrated in urban minority areas, as well.

So all those poverty-level rural White women that have no access to such facilities for miles and miles are far more able to control their fertility. Why? There's something else going on. Irresponsibility? What?

the something else that's going on is called population. numbers. there are more people needing services in the cities than in rural areas. there are more people, children that are needy than in rural areas.

so no comment on the other questions. your silence is illuminating.

how do you know if women in rural areas "are far more able to control their fertility"? how rural women maintain their own reproduction is pure speculation on your part and none of your business.
rural woman travel hundreds of miles in many cases to have access to medical care.

"irresponsibility"? your answer to the core of my unanswered questions.

What the OP wants to paint is that Planned Parenthood is mainly about abortions, when in reality it is a minor part of what it does. PP mostly provides medical services to women, many of whom are poor and live in remote rural areas.

Policies that defund PP are evidence that the right wing cares not about women's health.
