Don't you know - people only aren't successful because they're lazy or make bad choices!

Not because they're young and haven't had the time to grow their success or wealth, or get sick or have an accident, or are of below average intelligence (half of the country has to be...).

I made all the right choices and started adult life well ahead of my peers - then the brick wall of cancer hit and bam! I started singing a different tune about just needing to work hard. I might have thought differently if I got sick at 33 on the trajectory I was on rather than 23.

You know these people don't really pay at all. They will show up to ER. It doesn't matter how much it costs. Don't you worry for them unnecessary.

How's making $250k being part of the 1%, especially in high-cost areas like NYC or SF?

What's a safety net? An iPhone 7? Free Cable? 50" HDTV? Where do you draw the line?

I do believe everyone deserves a "safety net" but it should have a time limit: 6 months, 1 year. After the time limit you'll need to show you're making an effort to get employment. Is that so unreasonable?

^^This. It's the problem in a nutshell. We put a $ sign on human lives. It's wrong - even evil do to this. Money should not mean more than a human life. But it does in this country - and in more ways than one.

Ryan's statement that some people will chose not to get insurance is like saying we don't need to provide people with food stamps because some people will chose not to eat. Kellyanne will remind us that there are several medical conditions in which people chose not to eat.

I hope you are doing better now.

I see a lot of arrogance on this board. People think nothing can happen to them. Illness and job loss can happen to anyone and devastate and bankrupt. I have worked hard but also consider myself extremely lucky to have always been healthy and employed. I try not to take any of it for granted.

Tell me about it. Empathy is sorely missing these days.
