This really baffles me. We have loads and loads of rich liberals including Warren Buffett, Tim Cook, Bill Gates, Emma Stone, Patricia Arquette, Meryl Streep etc. etc. etc.
Why don't they just pool their money together and create a fund to pay for all their liberal ideas such as health care, refugees, illegal immigrants, equal pay etc. etc. etc.?
Wouldn't that solve more problems than all the bickering?
Why all the Right-wingers don't just pool together their money and built that wall.
Instead, they concocted this fantasy that they can make Mexico pay for it, and convinced themselves that it's possible.
Trump wants to end State and Local tax deduction. It will help pay for the increase in standard deduction that will benefit the middle and lower class. Who benefits from State and Local deductions?... the rich who can afford expensive homes, Blue states like NY and CA, states where the state and local taxes are high. Those who can itemize reduce their taxable income and pay less federal taxes. Being able to deduct SALT is like others through-out this country subsidizing someone else's high priced mansion via federal taxation.
These rich elitist will put up a major fight, taking away the SALT deductions, they'll have to pay more federal taxes. Since they claim paying taxes is patriotic, you'll see they won't be so patriot ... or compassionate after all.
This is genius
Again, red states deduct their state and local taxes too. And they would also lose the deduction. They will also likely fight to get it back.
I would vote for this in a heartbeat. Let the red states be ruled by their conservative fundamentalists (who would institute their own version of Sharia Law within weeks). They can all opt out of that horrible socialism, like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Disability, and live by their own bootstrap independence.
There would be red state refugees flooding across the blue state borders in record numbers. Maybe we could build walls....
That's a wall that would make sense. That's a wall that would be worth paying for.

Of course, I didn't say they didn't but it's people who can afford higher priced homes and have higher income who benefit... but not at the rate states with high SALT taxes like NY and CA. Essentially by allowing people to deduct SALT, the federal government is subsidizing high tax states. Rich people benefit from the SALT deduction more than you do. I thought you wanted the rich to pay "their fair share"? I guess not if they are Democrats.
Keeping in line with this thread topic, why would the liberals in high tax states fight losing this deduction. It helps pay for raising the standard deduction for everyone and it helps people in lower incomes keep more of their money.

I also could use the leftist argument that high tax states and rich people benefit from the state and local tax deduction more than I do. Why would you support that?
I don't care if they don't let states deduct state and local taxes, I live in a state that doesn't have income tax. Not a problem for me. But make no mistake that red states have high state and local taxes too and they will pay equally. Blue states tend to have more expensive homes because people want to live there and often it is coastal and often there are geographical limitations. Red states deducting their state and local taxes also benefit. States like mine that fund our state in other ways get zero federal deductions.

Why don't [liberals] just pool their money together and create a fund to pay for all their liberal ideas such as health care, refugees, illegal immigrants, equal pay etc. etc. etc.?
You mean by doing something like creating government programs, paid for by taxes, that address those issues? Hmm...
Unsurprisingly, given the current state of politics, the general public's ability to discuss politics, and, it appears, this specific forum, your idea doesn't seem very well thought out.
First of all, as my first sentence alluded to, liberals do want to pool money together to pay for "ideas" such as health care, refugees, illegal immigrants, equal pay, etc.
I don't know, but I don't imagine that Merryl Streep and Bill Gates are getting subsidized insurance through the Marketplace, for example, but they are certainly contributing to it through their taxes. They aren't expecting "other people" to pay for these programs. They expect everyone, including themselves, to pay for them.
Also, if these (20, 100, 1000, ????) people did pool all of their resources together, it's still a finite amount of money that would eventually be depleted. Creating a system to pay for these things ensures more continuity for these types of programs. As someone mentioned elsewhere - the border wall. This type of project makes much more sense to be financed individually as it involves a very large one-time expenditure and then smaller future expenditures to finance it.
That's a wall that would make sense. That's a wall that would be worth paying for.
You sound exactly like the stereotypical white redneck: "those inherently inferior people should stay in their own damn area and stop mooching off my tax dollars."

Isn't that what Republicans have been saying for...EVER? I'm agreeing with them. Why is it okay for Republicans to say it and not Democrats? The whole point of this thread is saying why don't liberals pool their money for social programs. I agree! I just want my money to go to other liberals. What I resent is my money going to people who take my money but don't represent me. People who scream socialism while rushing to the trough to eat up my tax dollars. I complete agree with the OP, let liberals pool their money - but keep that pool for liberals (blue states). Red states can fund themselves; or not fund themselves, we don't care.
