If you found out someone was on food stamps, SSI or unemployment, would your opinion on them change? Would it be similar to finding out they were a murderer, a rapist or a thief, or would you not really think any different of them? Let's say they never disclosed any disability or reason, but you had no reason to think they were cheating the system either.

Nope no problem from me. Been there done that. I feel for the working poor with families because I know exactly what they are going through working some job where they are paid less than 12$ an hour while the companies bosses owners make millions...driving 15-20 year old vehicles, struggling every month to get by etc. Now the ones you see pull up in a new car with shiny rims and nice system blasting and new clothes on I want to strangle....they are abusing the system.

They are selling drugs on the side. No way can somebody afford a nice car with the little they give you. As far as the clothes I mean, what do you expect them to wear rags? Haha. I mean if it's $100 jerseys yeah, I see what you are saying.

unless you are a fly on the wall you never know what someones situation is

and even if you do, really it makes no sense to feel anger or some kind of strong emotion against folks on public assistance

just be thankful that youre not on food stamps, wic, welfare or whatever the current terms are nowadays

anything involving govt assistance will ALWAYS have its share of fraud...that is just the nature of the beast

You are counting "unemployment insurance" in this?? I hope you realize that people get UI because they were WRONGFULLY TERMINATED or LAID OFF. You know, something in control of the CORPORATION as opposed to the worker.

I'm surprised that you didn't go all out and add SSDI to your list. Lots of people "look down" on them too. Especially when you can't see their disability which is 90% of disabilities.

Fraud exists in any system. Those "scamming the system" are the exception as all of the statistics will tell you.

It only means those who accept it are no longer among the poor (if some ever were to begin with).

Public assistance by definition means you're no longer poor.

Not in general, but I do think that some people game the system and I don't respect people who are unwilling to get over the issues that prevent them from working.

I've never been a big fan of welfare and I think it's a band-aid solution for a much larger and much more expensive problem.

Yeah, I would include SSDI, just forgot about it. I have SSI myself for a disability that limits my ability to work and because I'm not physically crippled and have above average intelligence I do encounter a lot of judgment for it, even from my own family sometimes. But they could never really understand so I guess there's no point in taking it to heart too much.
