Thanks Donald, I can already feel America getting greater!

Donald Trump Calls For A Law We've Already Had For More Than 20 Years | HuffPost

“I believe the time has come for new immigration rules which say that those seeking admission into our country must be able to support themselves financially and should not use welfare for a period of at least five years,” Trump said on Wednesday night at a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The crowd cheered wildly at this latest example of Trump’s tough-on-immigrants rhetoric, and the president soaked in the applause.

However, such a law already exists.

As The Hill noted, the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act, which was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996, prohibits immigrants from receiving federal benefits.

Immigrants are draining state coffers in states like California so it seems this Clinton law isn't expansive enough.

If he can take credit for actually enforcing it, it will be be an accomplishment that no others have been able to do since said law was passed some 20 years ago.

Stop and think about that?

It is also a law that is enforced in pretty much every other nation on Earth, except ours. That's why you can't just move to Canada, Australia, or even Mexico, without being summarily rounded up, imprisoned and expelled when your visa expires.

But let's not allow common sense to taint this lib rant, please, continue.

Default Trump To Ask Congress To Ban Immigrants From Receiving Welfare For Five Years

“The time has come for new immigration rules that say ... those seeking immigration into our country must be able to support themselves financially and should not use welfare for a period of at least five years," Trump told a campaign-style rally in Grand Rapids, Iowa.

President Trump will ask Congress to consider a law that would prevent new immigrants to the United States from receiving various forms of public assistance for a period of five years after arriving to the country. Trump announced this on Wednesday evening at a rally in Grand Rapids, Iowa.

Im for it. I have seen the system abused over and over again.

Good idea. If this law were on the books, over half the population of California would have to give up their freebies- illegals, and recent legals.

There was no welfare when European immigrants came here. They came for work and freedom.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

I thought this was the law already thats why for immigration people need financial sponsors & I thought one only qualified for aid after obtaining citizenship. If its not the law, I am totally for it. I remember when I was in high school there was a new immigrant family struggling financial. Few people suggested going for aid but they refused fearing their brother who sponsored them would get in trouble.

I can only imagine all the millions/billions saved in wasteful spending that this will do ! The welfare days need to be behind us. People need to work instead of collecting benefits.
