Part of the problem with some police is that many of them have military backgrounds. They come into the force used to blowing things up, exerting force.
No, that's not it.
If they were military police, they certainly couldn't--unlike the civilian world, military police are under far, far more restraints. "I feared for my life" doesn't work for military police.
Even if they were infantry, they are under far more restraint than civilian police. Their Rules of Engagement are much more rigorous.
So whatever bad habits they have, they learned as civilians, not as military.
This, if a cop shoots my dog I will make it my lifes mission to kill the cop and their family. I would start with their kids, spouse, parents and finish with the scumbag cop. If anyone kills a member of my family, they better kill me too, cops included.
So you are going to murder many people because a police officer shoots your dog? Stupid talk. No you won't. Every time a thread like this comes up some lunatic says they are going to do this.

Good comments. Maybe it's their mind-set or psychology that, no longer under military rules, changes their behavior.
Some are too aggressive, too macho, too egotistical for the job, and in it for the wrong reasons.
That's not to say this applies to the majority. It does not. But there are some like that.

There is no difference identified by any study between those who were prior military and who weren't. Of course, as far as I know there hasn't been such a study, so any such assertion is just a wild accusation by people who don't understand the military and assume soldiers must certainly be more violence-prone than "ordinary" people.
Actually, that study has been done, and it's been found that infantry troops are actually less violence-prone than civilians of the same age range.
Bc they've been given a free pass for last few decades to do it to people?
Again... Europe, Japan, And S. Korea don't have a problem with cops shooting dogs. Why do you think that is?
The Japanese dogs are better tempered? They aren't as aggressive as American dogs? lol
