Well, that's the problem, isn't it? We all just want to be pissed off and offended all the time. It's a shirt, people. A damn piece of fabric. You think it signals something? Then call them idiots behind their backs and move on.
And guess what? Remove the shirts and put them in Polo's and some black students might still be offended because the likelihood that white girls really want to go to an HBC isn't that great.
Nobody used the N word.
Nobody threatened anyone.
Nobody defaced or destroyed property.
If you think the slogan is racist, which I feel is an easy excuse, then at best they were naive and at worst they were classless and stupid. Be prepared to deal with classless and stupid, ladies, because that's the world i which we live.
It would have provided both sets of students with a great teaching moment had someone pulled all parties to the side and just talked.
I'll say this again, and I'm not justifying it, but I think the white nationalists/supremacists rally played a big part. The leaders of these rallies are Trump supporters, so some minorities are on edge. And some don't need much to push them over. And then there are others who are just plain angry.
Sometimes, you don't have to say anything. And you know you'll get a reaction.
This is no different than a Patriots fan strutting through Atlanta in a Super Bowl champs t-shirt or a Warriors fan doing the same thing in downtown Cleveland.
We see this happen in other areas, like sports, all the time. It just so happens this time its political and there's an element of race, too.
With all these posts, I wonder were you actually live. I live in the Houston area (largest ethnicity is Hispanic) and here Spanish all the time but 90% of people who speak it, especially anyone under the age of thirty can hold a conversation in English perfectly fine. Unless seeing or hearing another language triggers you so much or you live in Miami-Dade County or El Paso, Texas or Brownsville, Texas.
I'm not that far from Canada now and no where near the southern border. My suburb went from almost all white to minority white UN nations practically overnight under Obama. I didn't know an eye sore and ear sore like it was earthly possible.

Again I agree the reaction was bad but the reason for the difference in a white school vs. black school is colleges are more liberal, even A and M which is considered a conservative college (At the very least top three most conservative non-religious universities in America) and I visit all the time due to proximity is more liberal than the majority of Houston IMHO. Also among white people the split is like 65-35% conservative, among black people especially when you take out Africans, Light-skins(for some reason lighter skinned AA's tend to be more conservative, but that is just a personal anecdote) and Caribbeans the split is like 90-95% towards one political party.
It's apparently so provocative that if you wear that shirt in the hood you'll have your ass handed to you.

No. BLM doesn't just go and march into random places for no reason. They march when injustice occurs. And they aren't a hate group and you're going to lose. Conservatives have never won a cultural war. Progress always happens.

I don't know what to tell you. I can spot an American native from a foreigner a 1/2 mile away sometimes. Most of them make a point of sticking out like a sore thumb or being provocative.
