This is nothing like the 1970s and we survived that. There were hundreds of domestic bombings back then and groups were much more radical.
There was no Internet back then...
Rise in hate groups and other issues like child porn, mysogeny go hand in glove with increase in Internet useage/exposure...

Several of the people I read about who were in Charlottesville to protest FOR alt-right groups were radicalized via the Internet to certain extent...
Not saying everyone was....but
People can be "radicalized" in many different mindsets/interests because the Internet is always on, goes everywhere, has little oversight...

If I lost my job and was going hungry, sure.

But who's going to risk the stability of their daily life tending to their obligations to stand for somebody else's cause?

Not very.

The white supremacists will keep screaming and having their heavily armed rallies where they intend to be violent, the left wing extremists will turn out to engage with them.

The vast majority of us will go about life as usual, waiting for the day that we no longer have a Nazi sympathizer in the white house. For now I'm content to watch Trump flounder because he's a raging moron who can't get anything done. We'll simply vote him out in 2020, if he doesn't quit or go to prison before then.

or hire Betsy DeVos's brother (Blackwater) to "protect the nation"...

Husband has worried for while about this--ever since the 08 market/housing crash

I agree that following the media too closely heightens anxiety but there is a lot of rage in today's society which manifests itself in various ways

I just don't think a country that has been built around guns and vigilante justice is going to turn the other cheek if push really comes to shove...
There are plenty of liberals --not just antifa--and minorities who own guns...that is not just alt-right goon territory...we just don't flash them in 7-11...

It was a communist that destroyed the statue in Durham. Most of the bullying I have seen was from the left. 40,000 people against a free speech rally. And telling lies about what the group was having a rally about to boot. Shameful behavior! All 40,000 aren't worth a continental among them. They're puppets and troublemakers.

Hate group marching against hate is an oxymoron.

As a society we have to be intolerant of intolerance. It is the only way...

Free speech has worked for more than 200 years. Nothing wrong with free speech. The next thing to go after free speech is freedom of religion and pretty soon thereafter people will be imprisoned for political views just as some want to get rid of Trump now so they can have their own way when their way lost. That is what the witch hunt is all about.

You may think it will be all right to live in a communist country but the things the left is doing now would get them all killed in a communist country. Trumps wife knows how important it is that we stay a free country with free speech.

No we don't have to be intolerant of intolerance if we want to stay a free country.

The Democrats wanted the civil war. They lost. They'll lose again.
