Rain is still steady here today but not at the same intensity. It seems to be moving east. The Cajun navy may soon need to head back to the homeland because I fear the flooding will start impacting Louisiana more soon.
If a hurricane of this intensity can validate global warming. . . then the global warming predictors are 117 years late based on the 1900 hurricane that hit Galveston, TX:
Harvey fits into the global warming model of intense record breaking super storms. This area is also the site of a large numbers of refineries. The Galveston ship channel is also not currently open to any ship traffic. Expect gasoline prices through a large part of the country to soar.
It also now appears that huge amounts of money from our tax dollars will be required to rebuild the area over a span of days, months and years that will be unprecedented in the history of natural disasters in this country. And since this is Hurricane season what other storms may break out in the near future?
Geez, get some new material
These hurricanes have been happening long before the first white man set foot on North America. The Indians and Aztecs were smart enough not to live in these areas during hurricane season. Imagine that.
I have been watching Harvey slowly march East and there are huge rain storms inching towards New Orleans.
Is anyone evacuating from there?
No Evacuation as of this date, but they are working around the clock in preparations.
New Orleans got very, very Lucky - if you can call flooding "Lucky" on August 4, 2017.
They had a 4 inch rainfall and the City began to flood - mind you, 4 inches of rain is not supposed to cause a Flood in New Orleans, so the Media and Public wanted to know what was going on. They depend on Locally operated Pumps (120 of them) and turbines to power the pumps to pump out the below River/Sea level New Orleans. The public was assured that all pumps and turbines were operational and everything was "fine" - when clearly is wasn't fine as the streets were flooding.
Cliff's Note version is -- some officials were hiding the truth about 25% of the pumps un-operational and turbines both un-operational and without operators. It caused quite a stink, people fired and an investigation into what was going on. This is "Lucky" because they had enough warning to get it under control before Harvey popped up 19 days later. FEMA has been on the ground - pumps are now operational at 106, turbines repairs (one was under repair for 6 years ) and backup generators brought in by FEMA to keep it all going.
The New Orleans Mayor, Louisiana Governor and FEMA have been coordinating operations and looks like they are getting in good shape - Emergenh designation has been requested and granted by President Trump. This is the pre-step for Disaster Designation in case of need. They appear to be on top of things and FEMA & the City/State have pre-staged equipment and supplies if Harvey causes an event in New Orleans or Louisiana. Evacuation won't be needed if they feel they can handle the flood They plan to take it area, by area - they are watching the warnings closely.
New Orleans doesn't want another Katrina event OR a Houston Flood event.
My mistake ...time flies. It was Bush that was criticized for his lack of response. I hadn't remembered that Katrina was that long ago already.
Bush explicitly took responsibility for the poor federal response to Katrina on 9/12, despite it was a systemic federal, state, county, municipal and human failure.
The " what if" remains unclear had NOLA and other areas been ordered to evacuate in anticipation of Katrina.
It has been estimated about 400,000 had been displaced in Louisiana and Mississippi during Katrina.
That seems rather insignificant compared to this storm.

No global warming panic, just common sense.
Actually, many of the Maya'n cities were right on the beach. You can check them out if you ever go to Cancun. I guess they just rode out the storms.

"More than 20 Texas representatives and senators voted against Sandy aid. How will they vote on Harvey?"
And how many reps and senators will attach unrelated pork to it?
