Does the article state that? Maybe they would have put out the same thing for a bunch of white students?

From the article:

Quote:
Lipscomb University President Randy Lowry said in a statement late last week that he had invited African American students to his home for dinner, serving what one student called “black meals” — “mac n cheese, collard greens, corn bread.” A picture posted on Instagram showed the meals placed around a table that was embellished with a jar filled with decorative branches and cotton stalks.

These are traditional SOUTHERN dishes, not only for blacks. How racist of them to assume it is "black meals". I'm a Yankee and eat mac and cheese, cornbread, and steamed leafy greens similar to collards.

Southern United States[edit]

Collard greens are a staple vegetable in Southern U.S. cuisine.[4] They are often prepared with other similar green leaf vegetables, such as kale, turnip greens, spinach, and mustard greens in the dish called "mixed greens". Typical seasonings when cooking collards are smoked and salted meats (ham hocks, smoked turkey drumsticks, pork neckbones, fatback or other fatty meat), diced onions, vinegar, salt, and black pepper, white pepper, or crushed red pepper, and some cooks add a small amount of sugar. Traditionally, collards are eaten on New Year's Day, along with black-eyed peas or field peas and cornbread, to ensure wealth in the coming year.[4] Cornbread is used to soak up the "pot liquor", a nutrient-rich collard broth. Collard greens may also be thinly sliced and fermented to make a collard sauerkraut that is often cooked with flat dumplings.

I smell a rat.

This was a set up if ever there was one. we hear about a facebook post where some woman in texas rants at Hobby Lobby about cotton. middle America blows up in laughter at this idiot.

Then we get this story that a college president sets a table with cotton and collard greens for a dinner for African American students.

so this blows up and now all the BLMites get to say "see those white people don't understand us, they hate us and they want to make us slaves again"

im calling bull pucky!

here goes the PROG left again creating a false reality to prove non-progs are bigots.

The only bigots here are the liberals spreading this junk.

LOL..cotton stalks has been fall decor for years and never hit the headlines until now.
Unless you are around where cotton actually grows you'd never know that either.

They just harvested near me and I have wads of cotton blowing all over the place.

who cares if the president is a "leftist"

how do you know? Cause he is a college president?

weird how folks think people on the left can't be racist or ignorant when it comes to race.

We have been trying to tell you guys it isn't a left, right thing but you refuse to accept it.

again, you guys are weird as hell

"don't blame whites or conservatives" is such an odd thing to say.

The diners were upset, the president apologized.

I have no idea whose idea it was to decorate the place or select the menu, most certainly the University president didn't personally do either but as host it's his responsibility to apologize.

All the additional commentary claiming there was no way to misinterpret it or that it was intentionally meant to intimidate them or the ridiculous political jabs or utterly offensive comparisons to gas chambers and irish drinking are just people grinding their own personal axes on a random piece of minor news.
