Lipscomb University President Randy Lowry said in a statement late last week that he had invited African American students to his home for dinner, serving what one student called “black meals” — “mac n cheese, collard greens, corn bread.” A picture posted on Instagram showed the meals placed around a table that was embellished with a jar filled with decorative branches and cotton stalks.

These are traditional SOUTHERN dishes, not only for blacks. How racist of them to assume it is "black meals". I'm a Yankee and eat mac and cheese, cornbread, and steamed leafy greens similar to collards.

LOL..cotton stalks has been fall decor for years and never hit the headlines until now.
Unless you are around where cotton actually grows you'd never know that either.

The diners were upset, the president apologized.

I have no idea whose idea it was to decorate the place or select the menu, most certainly the University president didn't personally do either but as host it's his responsibility to apologize.

All the additional commentary claiming there was no way to misinterpret it or that it was intentionally meant to intimidate them or the ridiculous political jabs or utterly offensive comparisons to gas chambers and irish drinking are just people grinding their own personal axes on a random piece of minor news.
