Here in Louisiana, and where I used to live in West Virginia, your average Republican is a LOT more educated than your average Democrat. Here in the Baton Rouge area most of the college educated, middle class suburban people are Republican and many suburban communities voted for Trump by over 80%, higher than many of the rural towns in fact. Its very common to meet people who are well traveled, sophisticated, have high incomes, even have yuppie tastes like going to Trader Joes and still be very Republican. While social conservatism certainly still predominates here in the South, most people are also fiscally conservative and don't believe in government dependency. The culture of entitlement is still mostly seen as an inner city and illegal alien thing, vs in the rest of the country where many young people are also into the culture of entitlement and dependency ie Bernie Sanders base. The most Democrat areas are the most impoverished, uneducated ghettoes in New Orleans and Baton Rouge's inner city areas.

WV is a mostly blue collar state but the most Democrat counties were the poorest and least educated. Contrary to media portrayal, your stereotypical "trailer trash" is more likely to be socially liberal and are often politically apathetic and don't vote. The hardworking blue collar folks, the middle class folks and the business leaders were mostly conservative and also tended to be more openly religious.

Its the liberal Democrats in the NYC and LA suburbs and the Bay Area that vote against their own economic interests just so they can push their liberal social agenda on the rest of the nation.
I don't vote against my own interests. I have no interest in voting for a Traitor who likes Russia more than the USA. I also have great Cadillac health care and want YOU to have it as well. Thanks

Are you talking about the working poor ? Who are you describing ? Who is proposing tax cuts for the poor? Trump? Please tell us. Are you saying that Dems don't pay taxes? I'm confused. Who wants to reduce taxes for poor people? I watch a lot of business shows and News and newspapers and C Span and I haven't seen that proposed yet. Can you send me a link to that legislation?

Some people keep shrieking that the rich get more federal income tax cuts than the poor. The absolute poor tend to receive a net gain from federal income taxing, meaning they receive a larger amount back than they paid in. The working poor pay a very small amount of federal income taxes. So, when a general federal income tax cut is made meant to affect the most people, of course the rich, who pay the most by far, will receive the greatest cuts. It's math.

thank you- this has greatly added to the discourse in this post. Without your contribution I feel we would have been unable to advance the discussion here at all.

you can structure a plan so that middle class and working poor receive greatest percentage of taxes back as opposed to 1% who would receive large amounts back but smaller percentages, or wyou coud leven exclude 1% from cuts. It's possible.

the fact that you even need to ask that question (rhetorical or not) highlights the problem.

"educated" is hard to define. To me, An educated person is someone who understands the importance of listening to people in a real way because they’re interested in them and their lives. They listen to them rather than always shouting the loudest to be heard themselves.

Plus, Bachelor’s Degree is Not Enough Anymore.
