This was never a legitimate movement or a serious threat. You may as well be worried about Texas seceding, too.

Neither are likely, even if there is a fringe element in each state that wants it. I'm not sure why you took these "threats" seriously.

It was just wishful thinking regarding California.

Well, no offense, but if your personality as it comes across in your posts matches the one you project in real life...

The funny thing is there was a great "yellow peril" scare in California during T Roosevelt's terms. The Japanese were using the back door of Hawaii to gain entrance into the U.S. The California populace, the politicians were frantic. There were anti Japanese riots in San Francisco at the time.

The Great White Fleet's sail around the world played a role in showing the world and the Japanese in particular, at that time, that the U.S. could reach out and touch any foe. It was part of what convinced the Japanese government that they had to do their part in controlling the waves of Japanese.

Ironic isn't it? Guess California's have evolved on immigration.

Historical footnote:

Having mediated the end of the Russo-Japanese War, Teddy had come to know the Japanese government's character and well hidden intentions at Pacific dominance, correctly predicting the U.S. would have to fight the Japanese.

A progressive training ground, for sure. The State of Jefferson and the valley areas are the only bulwark and just not populace enough to stop the progressive wave. The Reconquistas play a hidden but powerful role in this mess, too. To their benefit.
