This is (in my opinion) the right thing to say. Much much much MUCH better than "I am sorry for your loss" "you have my deepest sympathy" But I guess each person has a different opinion.
Maybe to a general or a military family. But "I am sorry for your loss" is probably better for a 24 year old young woman with two kids and one on the way who is in a car going to retrieve her husband's remains.

Words said can have different meaning based on the perception of the listener. If you impugn based on your perception rather than the intent then that is a "you" problem. If everyone here posting that Trump is scum because of what Wilson says then that is on you, and I am disgusted that you think the intent was ill toward the widow. You are a partisan that cannot see beyond your hate.

Personal attack = you lose. Trump messed this one up BIGLY!

Watching his loyal followers go through all the mental gymnastics to defend the indefensible (over and over) is just plain sad.

Like I said, each person has a different opinion.

I am sorry for your loss never worked for me, but I don't claim to speak for anybody else.

Gen Kelly is certainly a man with integrity. Maybe you should watch the white House Press Briefing.
Bottom line....Kelly confirmed that Congresswoman Wilson told the truth. And then he attacked her for it. Pathetic.

Watch it again, he said it was said to him by his Casualty notification officer.
He said this is what comforted him the most. Trump followed Kelly's advice and said what he said. Trump did not have malicious intent.

You don't have to like Trump, but at least be honest about it.

Kelly never called her a liar. He attacked her for different reasons.

He did say his casualty officer was his best friend Dunford.
