Need proof? Please point out the number of people in line that have a 401K.. I'm sure if the number is that great the story lists them.. Oooh, I didnt see that as a factor.. but they sure did mention those on Social Security..

Yes.. Social Security does = food lines for $2 box of cereal, 401Ks <> food lines.. Glad you made a point to bring up 401Ks and the lack of them standing in welfare lines.
I don't think a 401-K would provide much security for someone with very little money to invest. For your "proof" you would have to adjust for income outside of whether they had a 401-K or not.

It's not like you can't have both.
Now your just being foolish, which I expect from you.

How much money does the family get from your 401K that you pay into it? ALL OF IT.

How much money does the family get from your Social Security that you pay into it? ZERO...

I do again note that the story makes no note of individuals in line that have a 401K.. They very well make it a point to name Social Security recipients in line, meaning that Social Security is a failure.. Total Failure.. You cant live off of it.. If you die early you dont even get it.. Its stolen from you.. Total theft by deception unless they can guarantee you a ROI on your money, which obviously they cant and dont.

Anyone see the movie Cinderella Man with Russel Crowe when he was a prize fighter?

In that movie he had to get a welfare check from the govt to feed his family even though he didn't want to. Then he made some money from fighting and paid them back. That's what it's all about. If people had that mindset this would be a great country again. Problem is people don't have pride anymore. They just want to be taken care of. It should embarass someone to stand in line to get food, unless of course they have a mental health or physical health problem.

But if they are strong enough to work (mentally and physically) they should work and should be ashamed to get a handout. The problem is people aren't ashamed of anything anymore because they have no pride.

Lets start with the money that you pay into Social Security.. I supposed letting them put that money into a 401K is out of the question for you.. Of course it is, it means less money the government has control over and you just love government controlling your life.

I remember my mother collecting government food when my father died as a child. The food consisted of a jar of peanut butter, powdered milk, and a block of cheese.. I was never more embarassed in my life knowing she collected that little. Now collecting welfare is almost a matter of pride, an entitlement, a right to some people. How the countries attitude has changed in 20 years.

Suggestion, maybe these people should sell their cars or scrap them... I think its pretty funny that this article depicts a drive-thru food line.

Another suggestion is that perhaps these people should become homeless... I see more overweight homeless people in the US than I do underweight ones.

Another suggestion... this article is about a friend of mine in Rochester, NY... this guy has enough stuff to full furnish an apartment and he never asks for food or other handouts:

Insider: Rochester Remixed |

Another suggestion... go to the public library and utilize the free internet. With that internet begin scouring for jobs in your state and surrounding states. If your in such great need then you will do whatever it takes... right? I GAURANTEE that anyone looking for a job in a 1000 mile radius will find one. Have a family?... Put them up with a relative for the time being... this is a LIFE OR DEATH situation people!!!

Another suggestion (in the state of VERMONT ONLY) just go to Home Depot or a Lowes and steal crowbar and some leather work gloves. Then go to a suburban neighborhood and start pillaging houses, you may not even have to pillage... they may just give you whatever you need after seeing your position in life and all.

Another suggestion... become a prostitute. According to several individuals on this forum, this line of work is not as outlandish and immoral as I thought it to be. However I did have an understanding that this is CAN be a highly lucrative field considering how much work is available.

Another suggestion (for states with beverage container deposits)... go to College campuses and look for dumpsters. Most colleges nowadays are hell-bent on recycling and do you know how much soda/pop these kids drink?!?! And then they just throw these nickels and dimes right in the trash! Dumpsters are picked up on a need-to basis. It costs the facility to have these dumpsters emptied per occasion. Save the college money and make some for your own!!! Pillage the recycling dumpsters!

Many more suggestions, but I have to go to work!

This is what is evil. The fact that these people and others across this great country are being let down by its own government.

"The kids are on a free school lunch program and, often, 12-year-old Shane brings part of that meal home." How sad is this!?!
It is a crime actually that so many families are going through this and so many more will with the way our economy is going. I knew a gal that worked in the school cafateria and they would throw away left over food at the end of the day, huge tubs of mashed potatoes etc. I asked why they could not give that food to the poor and was told it was a liability. Things need to change in this country, when we can throw food away instead of giving it to the hungry. It is sad the way things are going in this country.
Sassy

Well... we could lower the SS taxes on poor people or take off the cap so you could lower the rate overall, or create some arrangement like that, but that would be "theft," right? The essential part of Social Security is that second word, Security, a guaranteed benefit is a lot more secure than a guaranteed contribution into investments that can rise and fall along with the economy, which is what I suppose you're suggesting. I do love the government controlling my life, though, that's why I'm a supporter of such super-authoritarian things like legalizing some recreational drugs (therefore bringing such into government regulation and rule and overbearing power, rather than letting the underground free market decide how they're distributed), civil unions or marriage available for gay people (bringing the OVERBEARING GOVERNMENT into the issue of marriage, which should be a private issue between a man and a woman thank you very much), severely relaxing FCC regulations, opening up more radio bandwidth to public use, not needlessly invading other countries (thereby having our government use violence to tell people in other countries how to run their affairs), not having secret prisons where we lock people up without trial indefinitely using weird legal loopholes, etc.

I've never seen a fat homeless person before, but maybe that's because I live in Alabama. Although... Alabama is the second fattest state and certainly has its share of homeless people, especially in urban Birmingham, so seemingly I would be in the most likely place ever to see a fat homeless person, yet I can't recall such a thing ever happening... most of the homeless people I've met have been uniformly old, male, scrawny and leathery. Actually, now I take it back because I did see a somewhat chubby lady standing by the interstate with a sign one time, but she might not have been homeless, although I gave her a few dollars I think.
