Please post hyperlinks with evidence of starvation by employees at minimum wage jobs.
If that is the case, then why exactly are states including Arizona jumping to $12 or more over the next few years?

As a restaurant owner,do you really think I'm going to pay some 15 year old kid, with his nose in his cell phone most of the time,$600 a week to bus tables?
The minimum wage is in place for entry level jobs....kids getting seasonal work and such.
I have had kids that started at minimum wage who showed initiative and learned other skills that are now making $18-$20 hourly.
BTW...our local Walmart just tore out 16 cashier stations and replaced them with self check outs......so much for government telling private business' what to pay their help

Going to $15 an hour from $9 is disruptive.
The GOP wants no floor so their constituents can see how low they can go.
The Dems seem to think there is no limit to what employers will pay.

The min wage needs to be set at such that it provides a moderate floor and prevents low balling.
It cannot be so high as to be disruptive.

The partisans on both sides do not believe in balance.

To solve the problem, pay wages on a level with mainstream industries, institute appropriate performance measures and discipline, and ban tipping -- no phony subservience without the prospect of immediate and well-defined reward.

That's because we have government assistance for the working poor- Food Stamps, Section 8, etc.

For instance, a single person working a 39 hour week minimum wage job here in Missouri would be eligible for $194 a month in food stamps in addition to other benefits. They would get far more if they had children.

Even a family of 4 with both parents working almost 40 hour weeks, on minimum wage jobs, would be eligible for food stamps here in Missouri, as with many other states (here in MO, they'd get $649/mo).

So instead of getting a living wage from their employer, they're managing to get by thanks to benefits, paid for by the taxpayers.

A single person with no kids nor disability can get food stamps in Missouri?

I do actually agree with you there. $15 in many markets is excessive. While it may be necessary in high COL areas like NYC, it isn't necessary across the entire U.S yet.

I do believe that federal minimum wage needs to be increased, but not up to $15.

Minimum wage increases today are Plan B responses to high rents caused by excessive local regulation of housing. When government fails to do the economically and morally right thing - which is to allow the private sector to affordably build an adequate supply of housing - low-wage workers are harmed, resulting in political pressure to mitigate the harm by increasing minimum wage.

Sorry, you dug your hole. Especially California.

To my knowledge, yes. It is based on income.

An Able Bodied single person can get food stamps as long as they meet the work requirements (80 hours a month or doing an approved training program) and income requirements.

Vastly different COL across the nation requires this to be settled at the local level
