However soda is CHEAP, and I wonder if that's why it is the number one item.

Two liters can be had for less than a dollar.

If a case of 24 goes on sale for $5.00, that is roughly 20 cents a can.

Think about that in terms of packing a lunch.

I buy my son bottled juice which is about .67 each, or chocolate milk, which is over $1.00 each.

Soda is definitely not healthy (especially the diet kind) but it is cheap.
Water from a faucet is even cheaper and healthier.

That's true but are you going to put that in a school lunch or to the park for a big cook out?

I don't think dairy farmers are in danger of going out of business anytime soon...everyone's obsessed with cheese. As someone who doesn't feel good after eating dairy and actively avoids it as a result, I can attest this. lol

And he keeps on throwing MORE $$$ at an already bloated military budget with NO mention of trying to curtail those costs. Just another clueless pawn of the MIC. And Lil' DonnyBoy certainly never shied away from taking tax breaks from NYC, heaven forbid his own brand of welfare should be cut.

It isn't a matter of soda being cheap, it is a matter of how much of it they buy. SNAP recipients should be limited just like WIC. Soft drinks are the #1 thing purchased and it takes up over 5% of their benefits. That's just for soda and doesn't include other stuff like chips. They want frivolous items, they can buy them with their own money.

Sure, why not?

The only things I drink (other than alcohol on occasion) are water and tea (just plain hot green tea with nothing in it).

I tried a frapuccino once, and couldn't tolerate more than the first sip.

Tastebuds can adjust.

This has nothing to do with anything.

Welfare might well be bloated. Stories abound of women having kid after kid after kid and they just keep getting more money. Is that OK with you?

If it were expensive, do you think they would buy so much of it?

As a mater of fact, we do. We all have water bottles and soda is a few times a month treat (good soda not HFCS).

Bottled water wasn't even a thing 30 years ago. How did we ever survive?

Michelle, is that you?
