And you call ME a hypocrite and lacking insight.

You have me lumped in a category because I am a "Trump supporter" and therefore I have no soul. I don't need you to tell me about the condition of my soul.

If Trump did nothing, it would simply be following his M.O. as we have always known it. That's why there is literally no reason to believe that Trump is doing this as an altruistic act. He literally does nothing in that manner. Ever. Everything he has ever done works to serve exactly 2 things- his wallet and his ego. Those are his true gods. Any laughing was at the absolutely ridiculous suggestion that Trump is a good and decent man doing this out of the kindness of his heart. One would have to be a total fool to think that.

Conservatives have earned that reputation thoroughly. Perhaps if you guys weren't so busy attacking gays, minorities, the poor or immigrants, you wouldn't have your character impugned so often. But alas, those are the choices YOU made, and there are consequences.

I shouldn't need to tell you that Trump is a terrible human being, either, but here we are.

Regardless, apart from the humanitarian aspect, the crisis in Venezuela affects the stability of the region and needs to be addressed.

Would you prefer for him to do nothing? Would that make you happy? Then you could more easily continue with the standard "he's mean" complaint.
The video of him doing it exists.

https://www.snopes.com/news/2016/07/...bled-reporter/

I would prefer him to be an intelligent, caring human being. Alas, he's neither.

Yep, doing nothing at this stage would probably be the best for everyone.

There are numerous other videos showing Trump with the same voice/mannerisms that have nothing to do with that reporter.

How is "doing nothing" best for everyone?

So when Trump flew a dying boy from California to NY on his private jet when no airline would transport him, that was just for his own personal gain I guess. Or when he gave Sgt. Thamooressi $10,000 to start his life over, Trump was being selfish again. Or when he gave Jennifer Hudson a free stay in his hote (and provided security) after 3 people in her family were murdered. Or when he saved a woman's farm from Foreclosure....I guess that was selfish?

Also FYI I am from an immigrant family and my husband's family has several gay and Muslim members...so please stop with your sweeping generalizations.

But those actions/mannerisms were displayed when Trump was castigating that particular reporter.

And Trump doing nothing would be preferred to Trump flip-flopping on everything he does..

And you know of these actions, how? Trump was notorious among New Yorkers for his staged "donations" (for publicity). There is a reason he's not popular in NYC, and not just because it's a liberal town. Years of local bad press for multiple stunts ...

But, yes, greater scrutiny about his "charities" after he began the run for President ... this is one of many articles, examples:

Quote:
Instead, most donations came from the Donald J. Trump Foundation, which didn’t receive a personal check from Trump between 2008 and 2014, according to public tax filings. Although Trump decides where the foundation’s money goes, most of it comes from third-party donors.

What’s more, it appears that most of the foundation’s gifts are closely tied to Trump’s business dealings and political ambitions. In the past five years, it has given to the American Cancer Society, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, all of which have held fundraisers at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach. The largest donation listed — $158,000 — went to the charity of a man who was suing him.

Many of the donations also came in the form of freebies to Trump-owned businesses; the Post estimates he claimed credit for 2,900 free rounds of golf, 175 free hotel stays, 165 free meals, and 11 spa gift certificates. But in at least one case, Trump’s accountants overvalued the amount for which his free golf rounds sold at a charity auction.
Trump

Some of the tales are downright sad ... like showing up on the stage for charity publicity pics when he never gave a cent (or was otherwise involved). Or giving a kids group a fake check for $1 million as a joke (because he's so rich) then after the big show handing over $200 (a fraction of the goal).

Trump is President because he is a master of self-promotion and is a master at telling people what they want to hear. That talent truly has taken him far. He's also no slouch at financial shenanigans.

Like the guy if you will ... but, yes, folks either tend to become outraged or if they are so tired of being outraged then "laugh" at Trump's displays of goodness like his newfound refugees.

Cubans are pretty much the only significant foreign minority population that tends to vote Republican. They're an exception to the overwhelming rule.
Huh?

Immigrants who are hardened criminals are not coming here legally because they would not qualify for a visa. If only option for someone to enter this country is crossing the border out in the middle of the desert there has to be a reason why. Many are from Central America and don't have a visa or passport to cross over here. Most are not criminals they are just looking for a better life.

If someone is a Mexican national and crosses over illegally they likely have something in their background that makes it impossible to get a visa which should be fairly easy for them to get. Not necessarily a hardened criminal but previous deportations or criminal convictions. Some are very bad people.

I know lots of Mexican nationals who come over to Arizona all the time. None of them would ever dream of crossing illegally. Its not something that an upstanding Mexican citizen would do.

None of what I am saying is dishonest or bigoted.

I mentioned Cubans because their country is quite similar to Venezuela as far as being communist and poor. And because they tend to vote GOP.

I'm confused here -- maybe Trump supporters can explain it to me.

I thought Trump's position is that Mexicans and Central Americans are "bad hombres" and we need a wall to keep them out, right? So why are Venezuelans "good"? Why are Syrian refugees "bad" but Venezuelans "good"? And I thought Trump's base hated those "Venezuelan socialists."

Why uproot and deport illegal immigrants from Mexico and Honduras -- many of whom have jobs and families here -- but then allow Venezuelans in?
Yes, you are confused here.

Venezuela is in South America, not North America like Mexico or Central America.

Trump has never been against Hispanics and fully 1/3 of all Hispanics you see every day are Trump supporters. In the cases you mentioned, he was talking about illegal immigrants (but of course you already know this) coming in from Mexico with no controls whatsoever. Syria is full of terrorists & the refugees are wreaking havoc all through Europe. No one in their right mind would want them in their country. We're not talking about 10 million Venezuelans flowing in illegally over our borders with no controls in place. Trump isn't against immigration & he isn't racist. He's pragmatic and he wants reasonable controls over immigration like every other country has.

I wouldn't mind more Venezuelans. Venezuelan women are hot and arepas are one of the best foods on earth.

Inflation: inflation in Venezuela in the first quarter of 2018 was 454%. Although other countries in CA and SA are experiencing inflation (notably Brazil at 9%), no other country is experiencing it at this extreme rate.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile..../idUSKBN1HI2MO

Poverty: Almost 90% of the country lives in poverty, up from 48% in 2014. People have lost an average of 24 pounds in the last year. There isn't enough food.
The country is in free fall. From the NY Post: "The study showed that 87 percent of people in Venezuela, one of Latin America’s wealthiest nations back in the 1970s, were living in poverty last year, rising from 82 percent in 2016 and 48 percent in 2014."

Even Guatemala's poverty rate is at 50%.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost....shortages/amp/

Healthcare: the health care system is collapsing. Among the problems are a lack of medicines, malnutrition, a lack of vaccines, and a lack of hospital beds. There is a 90% shortage of medicine and other supplies.
People are dying due to a lack of antibiotics. Women are giving birth in the street. Diphtheria is making a comeback, at rates even worse than Haiti, when it had been declared eliminated in 1993. Malaria has shot up 76%.

"The PanAmerican Health Organization reported on Thursday that 447 cases of diphtheria, plus seven fatalities due to the disease, had been recorded between the middle of 2016 and the middle of this year.

The numbers is the highest in the region, far above Haiti, which reported 72 cases this year. The disease was declared eliminated in the oil-producing country in 1992.

The numbers on malaria are even worse, Rafael Gottenger, president of the Venezuelan American Medical Association, said from Miami.

“Malaria cases are increasing at an alarming rate. The estimate is that this year we will have 800,000, and one million next year,” said Gottenger, whose organization has long been warning that Venezuela is heading into a humanitarian crisis."

https://www.google.com/amp/amp.miami...182770351.html

Another more recent article on the health problems:

Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has refused to accept humanitarian aid, blocking shipments of medicine and first aid supplies. Government data shows infant mortality rose by 30 percent in 2016 and malaria infections shot up 76 percent, Reuters reports.

"So most countries when they're hit by a crisis, they're taking aid from other countries, from NGOs," Associated Press reporter Hannah Dreier told NPR in 2016. "But Venezuela keeps refusing to take donations that other countries are offering and is actually turning back shipments of donations that people have given in places like the U.S., not letting medicine in."

https://www.npr.org/2018/02/01/58246...conomic-crisis

To emphasize: Venezuela is BLOCKING aid and medicine. Intentionally. Let that sink in. So no, this is not like other countries in the hemisphere.

I applaud President Trump for looking to help these people, either by giving them refugee status here or providing aid to other countries like Peru that have taken in a huge number of refugees.

I cannot believe any of you would criticize this decision. You complain that Trump doesn't have "feelings" and that he's racist...now he wants to help and that isn't good enough for you either.
Then wouldn't this - in Trump's mind - qualify Venezuela as a sh*thole country? Why is he interested in their welfare and NOT in Haiti or the DR or any of the other countries and people he has maligned?
