This happens in Massachusetts as well, as with the case of Justina Pelletier - kidnapped by the hospital and held in a psych ward for over a year because they did not agree with her medical diagnosis from another hospital.
My son's life was saved at Great Ormond Street Hospital. They are a world class leading Childrens Hospital specialising in rare diseases. My son was under their care for 3 and a half years before we moved to the USA. These people are professionals and only make judgements that are in the best interest of the children they care for.
That the government shouldn't be denying people the right to seek their own care or care for their own children is correct no matter how many links you throw at me or laws you quote.
It's obviously a very difficult situation, that we all hope we never have to deal with, but there are good reasons for it.
In some of these situations, the child is in extreme pain, and truly suffering.
There's nothing that can be done to help the child, there is no recovery, but the parents can't let go (who can blame them).
It becomes tantamount to child abuse. It's not the intention of the parent, but the child is suffering because of the parent. In these situations, the law will always step in.
It sucks, and I'm sure that nobody enjoys being a part of the process, but the laws are designed to protect the children.

In other words, I doubt that it's to be written home about. And no matter how concerned or skilful the 'doctors' attending your son seemed to be, do bear in-mind that in the N H S they would be extraordinarily well-paid, securely-employed, highly-respected and obeyed &c. Such is a burden of the UK taxpayer
No it wasn't.
There were four main hospitals linked to Saville, the main one being Leeds General Hospital, followed by other hospitals he had special access to, one being Stoke Mandeville a hospital specialising in spinal injuries, the other to being secure psychiatric hospitals at Broadmoor and Ashworth. The vast majority of allegations relate to these hospitals, and Saville never had any special access to any childrens hospitals.

Despite rigorous examination of information provided by the informant, the Trust has found no evidence that the alleged incident took place. We also found no evidence of Jimmy Savile fundraising on behalf of Great Ormond Street Hospital and there were no, and never have been, access arrangements or privileges accorded to Jimmy Savile at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The Trust takes safeguarding matters extremely seriously and adheres to a strict VIP visitors policy which ensures that they are accompanied at all times. A copy of the full report is attached below:

I think not
The Trust carred out a full investigation and the police have compilied numerous reports, Savilles main abuse occurred at Leeds General where he volunteered as a Porter.
He had close links to Stoke Mandeville where he raised money and Broadmoor Psychiatric Hospital where he had a key and acess to a room.
In terms of GOSH, the Hospital never gave Saville any unrestricted acess, has strict access policies and always has, and Saville never raised any money for the hospital.

As ignorant a statement as I have ever read in my life.
Great Ormond Street Hospital is one of the leading childrens hospitals in the world.
As I said, I spent THREE AND A HALF YEARS there with my son, watching the doctors there save lives first hand with groundbreaking treatments. There's nothing 'seemed to be' about it.
Are you implying that these wonderful 'doctors' attended on their 'patient' out of the kindness of their heart?
Weren't they paid for their work? And why should they be respected any more than a diligent baker or decorator?
Your views are ludicrous
Your views are ludicrous, ignorant and ridiculous.
When you have watched children brought back from the brink of death in front of your own eyes, multiple times, including your own, get back to me.
Until then you have no idea what you're talking about.
Gov't gets involved because of $. Who do you think is footing the bill for the prolonged medical care.
It is a tragedy.
Whilst I wouldn't want to be the decider somebody has to be.
Would you endorse spending $10Million for a heart transplant for a 93 year old?
When does the insanity stop?
In this case that somebody is the parents.
The insanity stops when the state gets out of the medicine market and then if a 93 year old wants to spend millions on a heart transplant it will be nobody elses business.

Totally ignorant.
Great Ormond Street is now in Phase 4 of it's redevelopment programme and is an amazing hospital.
In terms of Alfie Evans, he is at Alder Hey in Liverpool, which is also a very good childrens hospital (see my earlier posts and videos) and which has also recently invested heavily in superb new facilities.
The Alfie Evans case is very sad, however he is terminally ill and it's now a question of finding the most appriopriate care in the most appriopriate setting. Hopefully the hospital can now reach an agreement with the family, as this is preferable to the courts having to impose a ruling.
