There was security in place to ensure the parents COULD NOT take possession of their child.

This is one of the many reasons many Americans are resistant to government run healthcare. And yes I know some American judges side with you, but much of America disagrees with those judges.

The Alfie Evans case is very sad, however he is terminally ill and it's now a question of finding the most appriopriate care in the most appriopriate setting. Hopefully the hospital can now reach an agreement with the family, as this is preferable to the courts having to impose a ruling.
I was born at Alder Hey!! I'm originally a Liverpuddlian!!

We are down to scientific and medical knowledge, indeed as well as Alder Hey's Consultants, independent experts also gave evidence, and everyone is in agreement that the child is terminally ill.

The Courts now want the Hospital and Parents to come to an agreement regarding where pallative end of life care should occurr, and the parents have expressed their wish to take the child home. The Courts would much rather the parents and doctors come to some agreement rather than having to impose a legal ruling, and they only intervene in a tiny minority of cases when medical experts disagree with the parents.

Tom Evans, the father of Alfie Evans even praised the hospital yesterday and a discussion with the Doctors at Aler Hey has been positive.

Britain already does research in to Mitochondrial DNA, indeed the very structure of DNA was discovered at Cambridge University by Crick and Watson, whilst Sir Godfrey Hounsfield an English electrical engineer who shared the 1979 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his work on the CT scanner, which uses the Housfield scale and fellow Briton SPeter Mansfield an English physicist who was awarded the 2003 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, shared with Paul Lauterbur, for discoveries concerning Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), so both CT and MRI Scanning were the products of British Medical Science, as are many pharmaceutical and other medical breakthroughs, and the idea that this baby would be better cared for by the Vatican was beyond belief.

Wonder how this would play out if the child was of the "Royal Family?"

The Associated Press reported earlier today that the Vatican had offered to provide Alfie with medical care.

Italy granted Alfie citizenship to try to smooth the process, but the UK has dug in its heels.

If the Vatican wishes to take responsibility, let him go to Italy. This is making the UK government look really bad.

The Law is set out in the Childrens Act 1989, the European Covention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the UK Human Rights Act 1998, as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which Eleanor Roosevelt was instrumental in helpoing to forge.

This case has nothing to do with the NHS, indeed a similar decision was made by a Court in the US in relation to Israel Stinson, so this is not unique to the UK.

'He's gone': Anger, grief as plug is pulled on toddler after sudden court decision - The Washington Post

After court rules against parents, toddler is taken off life support - The Los Angeles Times

The ECHR applies to 47 countries in Europe and ios enshrined in British Law, and the UK Courts take all decisions based on ECHR Law, with the final say on the matter being at the European Convention on Human Rights, so the same decision would apply to nearly every country in Europe and to around 800 million people, sp why is the Vatican and US trying to state this is a British Law or it's the NHS when it clearly is not and the Vatican knows this, as the rest of Italy and Europe adhere to the ECHR, and the International Declaration on Human Rights.

If only we had better childrens laws in the past, then the Catholic Church might not have been able to murder, torture abd sexually abuse children. As Stephen Fry bone pointed out it's the last Church a Jewish Capenter from Galilee would have ever entered.

As for Alfie he has now passed away at Alder Hey, with pallative care and pain relief, which is very sad, but he was terminally ill.

No it's not it's a legal matter, it'slike saying a US Supreme Court decision is down to Trump when it's not, it's down to the Judges, the US Constitution and the Law, and the interpretation as to what constitutes the law. In terms of the UK the law is very clearly layed out in the Childrens Act 1989 the UK Human Rights Act 1998 (which enshrines the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the International Declaration of Human Rights.

Sadly Alfie died this morning.
