I mean that couldn't possibly have to do with all of the kickbacks Trump and his family has been getting from the Chinese government, could it? Many Republicans in Congress don't even understand what in the hell Trump is doing.

This guy is destroying the reputation of the country in order to make sure he and his family line their pockets in the process. Putin elected the perfect Manchurian Candidate.

Article is misleading. If two countries pay the same percentage, but one exports more, they are still paying the same percentage although the amount is different. But journalists probably aren’t very good at math, so...

This is either Trumpian idiocy or Trumpian mendacity. Trump has a hatred for our Western allies. Probably because they are not butt lickers like third world dictators or autocrats he admires like Putin and Xi. He wants to punish these allies for no reason. Trump is like acting like an abusive spouse towards our allies. Well, we all know what happens once the abused spouse has taken enough.

They're our allies (supposedly). You talk it over with diplomacy rather than resorting to tariffs that'll end up hurting Americans anyway. All it does is continue to damage US rep and paint us as two-faced backstabbers.

We must recall that the Trump administration is justifying the tariffs against Mexico and Canada on the basis of 'national security', a ploy called out by the Prime Minister of Canada.

Here is a good article on how President Trump is delighting in using 'power' reserved to the President, without Congressional input (such as these tariffs and Presidential Pardons):

Trump Tariffs, Pardons Probing Constitution for Weaknesses

From the link:

"Tariffs are a taxing power. Raising taxes usually requires two chambers of Congress. Why can Trump do it? A 1962 law gives the president authority to impose tariffs for national security reasons. In the middle of the 20th century, control of natural resources and certain kinds of manufacturing determined the outcome of wars. Japan and Nazi Germany selected areas of conquest in order to acquire oil and other resources needed to fuel their militaries; factories that built cars and appliances could be converted to making tanks and fighter planes. The law allowing the president to set tariffs for national security reasons set few limits on how this alleged need would be defined, but that didn’t matter, because presidents used it sparingly."

Will Congress now address that 1962 law? If we had members of Congress with political courage (excluding those Republicans that have decided to 'retire', hence their suddenly finding courage), they would immediately address this law.

I doubt they will. Rather than offend Mr. Trump's 'base', Congress will sit by and allow our economy to be ruined, and for the United States to become economically isolated from the world, allowing China and Russia to become dominant.

A wall does not have to be made of bricks or steel. You can have 'economic walls', which I fear other nations will start building around the US economy.

They really aren't our allies, they are our step children. They look to us to foot the bill on almost everything from imports to security to NATO to the UN.

We get y'all hate Trump. Instead of the usual TDS babbling what's YOUR solution to the massive trade deficits AND the continual theft of intellectual property? Negotiations have been tried many times to no avail and this has been going on for decades.

What's YOUR solution if y'all are so smart?
