The second trial starts in a few weeks on the same charges in NY,he is toast!
Second Manafort trial starts in Washington, D.C. (not NY).
Fyi - NY state law says it cannot pursue an indictment for someone already pardoned by the president. If the trial was scheduled for NY, Trump would have pardoned Manafort by now to prevent this.
No - the next trial is in D.C. - where it is anticipated the judge and jury will not be nearly as friendly.
Quote:
“The government anticipates that its case-in-chief will last approximately ten to twelve trial days,” prosecutors wrote in a filing Friday evening in U.S. District Court in Washington.
Manafort is set to go on trial there beginning Sept. 17 on charges of failing to register as a foreign agent, money laundering and obstruction of justice.

Not the 'same" charges and not in NY--
In Washington, DC...
And just as Majority of jurors in this first trial looked at the evidence and guilty beyond a reasonable doubt,
no matter their political persuasion--hopefully all the jurors in this next trial will do the same...

And how likely is it that the NY law will be changed before SDNY starts investigating Trump Corp???

Well, there's no pardon in place yet. Isn't NY pursuing TO on tax matters? That's not part of any federal case yet, afaik. Bimbo payoffs may be campaign contribution violations, fraud, etc., but NY isn't investigating that - or, are they? And, then, there is also the issue of Trump will not pardon Cohen - but he certainly would Weisselberg should it come to that on a federal charge. Gets more confusing the day. Hard to keep everything straight.
I would think the SC people are very strategically feeding cases to the states where the charges can actually incur a sentence.

IIRC, the manhatten DA is considering investigating the trump organization over cohen's claim that they re-paid the daniels/mcdougal pay-offs. the trump foundation is already under a separate investigation unrelated to daniels/mcdougal.
So many probable reasons but IMO it is no fun being searched twice--once going out and then coming back
Plus being in gen-pop holding/transport (if he truly is) is dangerous
I dont know that he is counting on pardon anytime soon
That could really work against Trump
as long as Manafort stays mum, Trump is way better off
"More than ever, Trump is acting by feeling and instinct. “Trump is nuts,” said one former West Wing official. “This time really feels different.” Deputy Chief of Staff Bill Shine has privately expressed concern, a source said, telling a friend that Trump’s emotional state is “very tender.” Even Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump are unsettled that Trump is so gleefully acting on his most self-destructive impulses as his legal peril grows. According to a source, Jared and Ivanka told Trump that stripping security clearances from former intelligence officials would backfire, but Trump ignored them. Kushner later told a friend Trump “got joy” out of taking away John Brennan’s clearance. His reaction to the death of John McCain—quashing a White House statement in praise of the senator, and restoring White House flags to full staff—falls into the same self-indulgent category. "

The next trial will not be all about Manafort hiding money, but more about how he made it...

The second trial will delve deeper into Manafort's political work from 2006 to 2017, during which he allegedly made $30 million as a consultant for pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine, the Washington Post reported. https://www.upi.com/amp/Lawyers-expe...4971535226228/
There are now reports that Paul Manafort was trying to cut a deal with Mueller in the upcoming trial. Talks have stalled due to concerns Mueller brought up. However, the talks haven’t ended but we now know Mueller has all the cards. Should be interesting to see what Manafort will say, and how badly Trump will continue to feel for Manafort if the plea bargain is successful.
