In some urbanized areas of the Aztec and Inca empires, native Americans suffered 90% loss of life due to old world diseases. It is probably the greatest proportional loss of life ever for a civilization.

Do you blame Columbus for this?

I think that the collapse of native civilizations was going to happen regardless because those populations had not built up immunities and they could not have remained separate forever.

Of course not. The whole idea of Columbus killing natives is bogus reinventing of history. Columbus took a few natives back to Europe with him because the queen of Spain demanded payments and natives in exchange for funding his voyage. He traded with natives and gave them provisions to be nice. Germ theory didn’t even come along until 400 years later. The notion that Columbus was engaging in some type of biological warfare is so far fetched that only leftist would believe it.

Columbus never made it to the mainland. De Ayllon and DeSoto did. They, and all who followed them, came in the name of greed and stole the land from its rightful owners.

Anyone making the argument that they were entitled to because they were technologically more advanced and better armed shuold ask themselves if they would be okay with being run out of their homes by someone with more firepower. My guess is "no".

He was also a rapist. Only immoral people would defend him, so don’t do that.

The colonist didn't steal anything. They and their Indian allies won under the right of conquest. The same right Indians themselves always operated under.

People making claims like yours should give all they have to an American Indian and leave America or at least put a sock in it.

Nobody knows when or where he raped anyone, and no persons could corroborate the claims after 526 years....haven't we been through this already?

While he was burning down villages, it is a practical certainty he raped some native women after a long journey surrounded by men.

If someone runs us out of this country we deserve it.

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that he was indeed a rapist. Are you saying that precludes him from a defense against a claim of genocide?

It used to blow my mind that so many people, hundreds of years ago could just assume guilt based on little more than a claim, or character attack, or association. I figured, those were probably just a few outliers that were exaggerated in history books. But after the Dr. Ford sham, and comments like yours, it really doesn't shock me anymore.

In Los Angeles they want to rename Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day.
