After Shumers response, I would not trust him to negotiate in good faith if the government we're to reopen. Trump had weak facts to back up his position, the Dems had no facts at all to back up theirs.
I just heard the speech. He spoke of compromise but he keeps the government shut down while he doesn't get his way. What a sad excuse for a President.
I watched it--I wanted to see his eyes. He was actually not looking into the audience--he was looking to a camera on the side weirdly and reading every word without sounding like he believed it--you could see his eyes moving, like he just got this screed 30 minutes ago. Miller probably wrote it with Jared. It sounded somewhat high-schoolish.
Schumer's response should have been the same as Steve Schmidt's -
Lots of lies and half-truths:
Democrats didn't say "hey we want a slat barrier, not a wall" that is a precieved compromise proposed by the Trump braintrust.
Democrats want a border security spending (the same bill that was fine until conservative commentators ****** about Trump not asking for the wall), not exclusive wall spending. This is fairly confirmed.
Drugs aren't smuggled on the border, but rather ports of entry, by sea and by air. A barrier whether wall or slats would stop that. The DEA has confirmed this.
Trump claimed that immigrants are cutting into jobs, they are not, look at the job numbers. I thought that the job condition was great and companies cannot find enough workers, not just the cheapest workers.
What a waste of time. THIS is what he used a prime time presidential address for? To repeat the same old lies? There was absolutely nothing new there that merits it.
It's like they are talking about two different things. Trump talks about the wall. Pelosi and Schumer talks about the shutdown.
That is because I feel that Pelosi and Schumer were right, there is NO REASON to hold 800k federal employees and their families and even more government contractors and their families hostage over the wall. Not border security, a stupid wall. Now Trump is trying to compromise with the slats and that it stops the drug trades (this comes at the ports of entry, by sea and by air.)
While his numbers are off as per Fox, we do need to do something about securing our border. Even the dems in the past wanted to secure the border.
It;s just their hate for Trump that drives them.
But why are his numbers off? Is it because the President of the United States doesn’t have access to the correct numbers, or does he feel empowered to provide false data because his followers simply don’t care?
