We are way past this. The rabid non-smoking control freaks have been brainwashed into thinking that even if they smell smoke on a smoker who isn't even smoking they will get cancer.
I work in the front lobby of my employer's building. Several times people have come in to apply for jobs or otherwise conduct business that have STUNK so much of cigarette smoke that the odor persists long after they have left, and it is to the point of being stifling. I have to sit out there because I am the receptionist, I can't switch to a desk in another room. Only thing that smells worse is body odor. Makes me wonder what the walls and furniture in their house looks like. I cannot imagine how they put up with that smell, because it is one of the most noxious ones out there.
I’m for a complete tobacco ban. As I’ve said before, there are alternatives to smoking cigarettes, weed, or whatever. I’m as liberal as they get, but health for everyone is more important than smoking and putting everyone’s lives in danger.
Profit generated from the tobacco industry in the US is $35.1 billion. Using a tobacco product is a personal choice.

Too long. That lobby is MY office, and I have the right not to have to smell it. One of these people showed up for a job interview smelling like he had chain smoked a whole case.

What do you mean by stifling?
Enough that I start feeling sick to my stomach from smelling it.
Nobody wants to shame the idiots we've voted into office (and that would be most of them) but they're willing to shame Joe Citizen for all kinds of things they disapprove of.

So what if I had a garlic fish dinner just before my interview? Do you also have the right to not have to smell me?

I feel your pain whenever an officemate heats up the following items in the microwave:
Fish
Shrimp
Cabbage
Popcorn with hydrogenated oil
Also I have an officemate who brings kim chi and sardines for lunch with great regularity.
Also there are some who brew flavored coffee--disgusting.
Smokers should try Juul and vape instead. Safer for them and bystanders.
Some smokers have switched to vaping. Some haven't. It's a personal choice.
Incidentally, vaping is under attack as well. Many anti-smoking crusaders find vaping almost as infuriating.
