Read Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 and visit the website of the EEOC.
I dont want to wade through all that. You said or implied employers must accommodate an employees gender, age and race. I then assume you know of some specific accommodations for such? So I'm asking what accommodations you are referring to or do you just mean non discrimination as in you cant not hire a qualified person just because of their sex, age or race.
. . . she informed her employer from the beginning of her employment that she could not work Sundays because of her religious beliefs.
So they broke a mutual agreement. Good for her. Too many employers think they can do whatever they want. That's why it's always best to be in a position of F You.
I wonder how this squares with everyone's opinion about pharmacists refusing to dispense certain drug and medications due to their religious beliefs?
If the pharmacist refuses to do so in spite of the employer's direction, they should be fired. If the pharmacist is the business owner, what products or services they choose to offer is their business.
**** poor management if you ask me. Seems you had a dependable worker for six years and then a new manager comes in and rather than keep the status quo gets rid of a solid worker in a job that probably has a lot of turnover. Personally I would fire the manager.
I disagree. Most employees prefer weekends off, or at least a day off on weekends. This allows them to spend time with families/friends. Why should one person get special treatment, and others have to work the "crappy" shifts, just to accommodate her silly superstitions? All employees should be treated equally. It's sad the company humored her for so long.
So you have no problem with an employer who breaks a mutual agreement?
Is it because you think lying is good for a relationship?
Totally different if the the law suite was about breaking a contractural agreement. This law suite seems to be about religious accommodations. Totally different.

What "mutual agreement"? The mutual agreement is come to work on your assigned shift and be paid at a mutually agreed-upon wage. The company made the mistake of humoring her for too long and should have simply said no right from the start. Work requirements change-she should have just gotten another job that might humor her-perhaps at her church?
