32% prefer universal gov't payer healthcare plus private insurance supplement

Pretty strong support for some form of Medicare For All.
"It's showing that if you are going to go in this direction, it's going to cost the federal government $2.5 trillion to $3 trillion a year in terms of spending," said Thorpe. (We currently have a 4.4 trillion dollar budget) "Even though people don't pay premiums, the tax increases are going to be enormous. There are going to be a lot of people who'll pay more in taxes than they save on premiums." Thorpe was a senior health policy adviser in the Clinton administration.
Exactly how to distribute the costs is a matter of debate. But throwing up those big numbers(in 10 year increment for some weird reason) without the context of the current spend being higher than that is just nonsensical.

Yeah, I don't know how anyone could be against healthcare availability for all. People should not be going without such a basic service in a well-functioning modern society. The issue is in how it gets done - is it affordable and can basic rights and freedoms be preserved while implementing it.

want a year basis?
we have a 4.4 trillion dollar federal budget for this year. Estimates for "medicare for all" range from 2.5 to 3.5 trillion per year. Figure it out, we can't afford it. Of course if I wasn't being asked to pay for I'd want it too.
"I reject the idea that single payer is impossible, I reject the idea that universal healthcare is impossible. All of these things are possible." -- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
I love her attitude. This is the American "can do" spirit than built the Hoover Dam and took us to the moon that is so rarely heard these days. It is beyond sad that Americans have become so negative and cynical. If she represents the future of America I am optimistic.

ain't happening
What don't you understand about that being less money than we currently spend on health care...for more coverage?
Employer and Employee premiums are a bigger drag on the economy and hurt international competition.
If I can opt out and not pay into socialized medicine, I say I don’t care.
Yeah--but that is the problem. People opt out and then use the emergency room of a hospital that is forced to treat them, and they can walk away and not pay. We have to allow emergency rooms to turn people away who choose not to opt in. Being the fake christian society we are, turning people away from emergency rooms will not fly.
Doesn't matter if 90% want free medical care. They aren't getting it. Civil war would see to it. I'm in!
I'd rather give my money to a system that won't deny me care than to a useless, greedy, money-sucking middle man insurance company whose level of care they will allow is based solely on the company's profit margin.
