Why?

To be tax-exempt, an organization is supposed to promote social welfare, further the common good and general welfare, civic betterment, social improvements, and so forth.

NRA does none of this.

NRA is a political lobbying front for gun manufacturers.
Tell that to the NFL.

Gun registration and background checks are not one and the same. If you wish to perform background checks I'm game to compromise on that.

  • The check will be instant, should take no more than 5 minutes for the majority of purchases.
  • Minimal fee that only covers costsm should only be a few dollars.
  • You only need to do it once year and will be exempt from it for rest of year.
  • No records will be kept by the governement. They can issue subpoena to the gun dealer foe them. Any registration is non starter.
That is not complete list but none of these things hinder the background check. In return for me compromising on this your compromise is I get nationwide concealed carry.

The NFL has voluntarily relinquished it's non profit status as have many other sports leagues because there isn't really any benefit to it. The NFL itself can make $0 profit so there is nothing to tax, it's a management company that distributes revenue to the team owners where it is taxed.

Which is also the case for many other non profits, the only thing that differs who they are representing. If you want to go down that road we can start with all the major environmental groups like the Sierra club.

The requirement for private transfer background checks is unenforceable as there is no database to begin with. Multiple law enforcement leaders have noted this on so many occasions. It would do nothing other than making people feel like they "did something." While also leading politicians to ultimately say that we need registration to fix the flaw they created.
