Of course. Who suggested otherwise? I'm suggesting we need to emulate some of their policies. Not sure where the defensiveness is coming from. I took your correction of my wrong terminology to heart.
Sorry, it was the "cut of their jib" that threw me off. Very old and rare saying, but I know what you mean now.
"Socialism demands that we place blind trust in whoever takes the power to distribute society’s goods and services. History shows those who have this power abuse it in horrific ways."
Democratic socialism has little to do with being Democratic.
Let me guess... "Life behind the Iron Curtain sucked, and that makes it morally right that poor people die from preventable causes."
From learning about the Great Depression in school, I wouldn't be surprised millennials don't trust capitalism.
See idk ...
Manufacturing and farming ... the more they produced the less (supply and demand) their goods were bringing in, in the market place. Which would be okay, except for people who lost their way of making a living. If a loaf of bread cost only .50 cents, they didn't have .50 cents ...
Any way as the story goes ... farmers were getting poor prices on their goods. So they bought more land (went into debt farther) working harder to produce more, which in turn (farm bill) reduced the price even more. (housing bubble; lenders of 2008)
The government steps in and it all went to hell ... if you ask me.
I don't think they are teaching the economics of the Great Depression, because I don't think any one has ever really figured it out.
We went from the roaring 20s to the bust and government began to grow itself through it, and ever so much after it. I'm hard pressed to blame 'capitalism' for anything we are going through today, or for the Great Depression, either.

Boomers outgrew their fringe views as the money rained down on them. Millenials will do the same, but the question is, where's the money? All they have is debt to their name. If our corporations really wanted America to remain faithful to capitalism, they would be showering the people with money. Instead, it all goes to shareholders and CEOs. This is the perfect recipe for socialism.
Personally, I think our largest corporations have planned on and prepared for transitioning into a socialist model, so they could care less.
The system rewards corporate short-term gains for shareholders at any cost.
What else do you expect as an outcome of a system designed like that???
This is the logical conclusion.
