At least we'er not burning witches, enslaving people and sending poor people to debtor's prison. I can't think of a time in American history I would trade for the present. As humankind becomes more intelligent Democracy and Capitalism has to morph with the acquisition of higher intelligence.

Socialism and Democracy has a way of emulating each other but calling it something else. Socialism limits private property whereas Democracy taxes you for owning private property.

Tell us again why the GOP did not vote in mass to prevent Trump from getting more power.

They have competition everywhere. School for example. Parents are give vouchers so they can send their kids to better school instead of bad local school. This force school to complete.

US teacher unions and their cronies will never allow this. Just look at how bad schools are in this country. It is not about the money, it is accountability, which there is none. It is not lack of money, in many cases, many districts spent more money on pupil that it would cost to send the student to elite private school and they still failed the student.

School is just one example of why socialism don’t work. No competition and full of red tapes.
Please stop and get your facts straight.
The swedish school system has failed miserably since it was privatized.
We had one of the best school systems in the world before the centre-right Moderate Party sunk their filthy claws in it and messed everything up.

My, my such opposition to socialism. I wonder if those who oppose will turn down their Social Security or Medicare benefits to show us all how they stand by their beliefs.

They really strange thing is that these same opponents of socialism will defend their nationalist leader, Demented Donald Trump, DDT, and his attempt to become king of the US.

Exactly! All I hear about is how socialism will be death to America yada yada yada. Yet, these same individuals support policies that only push the country further and further toward socialism. You can't have it both ways the writing is on the wall. Hell, part of me kind of hopes Trump will win in 2020 he's been the best thing for socialism this country has ever had!

America can't really be compared to any other country. How many countries were where we are now, and then converted to socialism?

But for some reason the only examples Russian trolls like the OP (and Fox News) care to proffer are Venezuela and Stalin. Well, if I were a Russian troll I guess Stalin would be the first person who came to mind. He probably starved the OP's great great grandma, babushka and all.
For as many successful countries there are failures as well.

Why would you ever include the US in the failures? We're American and we can make anything work better than anybody else! Right?

I honestly believe that. Do you?

Democratic socialism has little to do with being Democratic.
I dont support Bernie Sanders or any of the people who backed him with the exception of Senator Jeff Merkley

but me not liking him or his supporters has nothing to do with my ability to understand what they mean by "Democratic socialism".

Its not the same as socialism and its disingenuous to pretend it is. My guess is all these polls on the issue dont differentiate and most millienials think you are talking about Sanders and his beliefs rather than Chavez

Young "boomers" were little different. I graduated HS in 1980, at a time when we were in the worst recession since the great depression, with mortgage interest rates approaching 20%, very high unemployment. Successful, middle class people lived in a 1200 SF home (with 2-3 kid), had one phone attached to the wall and often had one car for the family (that describes my family, with a father that was in skilled trades at GM). Compare that to now, when we have a booming economy, low interest rates (on a historical scale anyway) and opportunities in fields that didn't even exist in the 1980s. Oh, I first studied robotics in college in the early 80s...when it was trendy to say robots would take all our jobs by 1990.

Young "boomers", from the 1960s on, tended to be liberal. Look back at the "hippies" of the 60s and 70s. They were very similar to the teens/20s of today in terms of their outlook on, and ignorance of, the world. Of work, of taxation, of success. They grew up, they matured, and became the adults of today. I'm sure the same was said of generations before them.
