The minimum extent of ice in the arctic ocean is clearly seen to trend down from around 7 million sq km in 1980 to around 4.5 million sq km today. The last few years there has been significant fluctuations, which does not negate the overall trend. This is a favorite tactic of deniers - they cherry pick a year to be their baseline, and then say "see, the temperature hasn't increased, or sea ice decreased, in the past x years." Just wait a few years, and the long-term trend always re-emerges.
