Currently zero countries in SE Asia have anything close to equal rights for all their citizens. In fact in all of Asia only 2 of 49 countries acknowledge some partner rights.
One of those is Israel which hardly seems Asian to me and the other is Taiwan which just voted down equal marriage rights.
"Afghanistan, Brunei, Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen, homosexual activity is punished with the death penalty.[1][2] The legal punishment for sodomy has varied among juristic schools: some prescribe capital punishment; while other prescribe a milder discretionary punishment such as imprisonment."
These Islamic countries are the complete opposite of Western progressivism, and would just as soon see the people who benefit by progressivism dead.
And in spite of that Islam is the Darling of many western progressives. My gf is one of those, she always does her best to insult Christianity, but never a peep about Islam. She thinks I'm down with it since I'm an Athiest. She thinks that some how Christianty and Islam are equal even though she is always up to defend Islam.
OK, I get it. You're not gay, but you support someone else's right to be gay.
In America, there will always be some demographic on the receiving end of some kind of negativity (physical or verbal): Gays are murdered in a nightclub. A gay murders people in a nightclub. White MAGA-hat-wearing thugs assault half-black gay Jewish man.
But, for the most part, gay people in America got it made, as compared to the rest of the world. And they will march down the street and openly laugh in your face to make sure you know it.
Not sure if it is about the right to be gay, either. It's perhaps more of a case of "You have this right but I don't agree with it and I won't be at events that champion that right. However, if someone is harassing or beating you up because you are of that demographic, I should step in and help you!"
