A middle school teacher says she was fired after an old topless selfie that she once sent to an ex-boyfriend popped up in a student’s inbox.
Three years ago, Lauren Miranda, a 7th-grade math teacher at Bellport Middle School in New York sent the private photo to her then-boyfriend, a teacher in the district. The couple soon split, but in January, the photo — that Miranda says she’s never made public — was attained by a student.
My kids district includes a morals clause for employees. My friend who works at the school isn’t even a teacher but is very careful to not even have a glass of wine in any photos that go on FB. I don’t think a morals clause is unusual. These young teachers think they can do whatever they want with no repercussions. They need to develop some common sense and not send anything out that could ever come back to haunt them.

Depending on how that student acquired that photo, she shouldn't be fired. She should be allowed to send all the topless photos to her boyfriends. The issue is where and how this student got them.
Firing a teacher for what was in a private communication with a boyfriend years before, is a violation of her privacy and personal life. The school can't claim she has set a bad example for the students, as many of the girls who are old enough to have anything to show, are already doing it. But that's only natural, as for attractive girls or women to exhibit their bodies, is a big driving force in human society and always has been. Attempts to curtail this and impose Victorian repression on young people, will always meet with failure and are responsible for many of the perversions that have arisen among people.

you are right, it is a violation of her privacy, but the school, nor the student is responsible for that. if the ex-boyfriend didnt publish it, perhaps he sold his old phone that had the picture on it, and the person that bought the phone published the picture.
but lets look at this in a different light shall we? does the same standard you espouse apply to everyone regardless of who they are? for instance in trump sent a private communique to a business associate back in the 90s, one that was potentially damaging, and it surfaced during the 2016 election cycle, would you have the same attitude?
Teachers sure have gotten selfish and sleazy these days. You might think they would have more respect for themselves and their charges.
