Perhaps a more productive way is to educate your fellow Indian person who isn't acting in the way you think is acceptable. If you don't, you're still going to get stereotyped anyway as perpetual foreigners. Been there, done that.

We do that in the Chinese community (I'm 2nd generation, from a earlier generation), and it's pretty darned common to complain about the JOJ (just off the jet) or FOB types - been going on for a long time.

I've learned to work together productively - and my view of the matter is, we're all kind of in the same boat - why not take advantage of the strength in numbers?

Well said. I've had a much better appreciation for 1st generation immigrants even though I'm local born.

Now here are some things that I actually respect South Asians for, that particularly some folks from my community (East Asians) can take:

They don't take s*** from nobody.
They'll fight back and be upfront if they're getting shortchanged. A good lesson for some mealy-mouthed Chinese or Japanese people who shy away from direct confrontation when it's needed but go into their passive aggressive mode. Heck, if you're not being treated right, speak up! Some folks need a swift kick in the you know what at times.

It is darn funny that you act all high and mighty, but at the same darn time, posting something so utterly racist and stupid. Maybe check your own prejudice and stupidity first before educating others about how to act.

I'm critiquing people in my own community. And it's based on my experiences. What's wrong with that?

You don't have a problem, it seems, for Indian Americans also calling out their own people for their faults. Double standards, eh?

But if there's one thing that's been achieved by the rantings on this thread - it looks like the old tired model minority meme of the polite Asian people who work hard, achieve, and keep quiet --- has taken a hit.

A lot more than you can claim to represent. You aren't the arbiter on that. Tough noogies if you don't like what I have to say.

This is what you posted, no?

This is the thing, I don't claim I represent anything. I only represent MYSELF.

It is darn funny that you act all high and mighty and condemn people who use Stereotype to judge others, but at the same time, creating and perpetuating stereotypes without admitting it.

lol

some people just like confrontations, some don't. it is not a good or bad thing, it is just their ways to handle conflicts. In my family, we have mostly white people, 1 or 2 Asians, and 1 black, we all have different personalities, that is all. we have different ways of handling things. The last thing I want to claim to represent is some huge community! lol I don't pretend everybody who shares my background all think and act like I do.

This said, I dated a Chinese-American who is also a software engineer. He said Indians are very territorial and would like to dominate the tech world. Maybe not a "racist" thing, it is just their way to survive in this country, I guess.

We shouldn't allow them to come into the country to dominate an entire industry. We owe them nothing.

I think you're overstating my level of offense by about 1,000,000%.

Again, I stand by my POV - that SOME (see the bolded) East Asians can be more assertive - in the workplace, socially, and in public life. If you have a problem with that, that's on you.

Well, you did mention that you felt you were singled out for your gender. But thank you for the note.
