The victim declined to be interviewed. The accusation was never made by the victim. It came from Stier who was a witness to it. It is similar to the claims made by Ramirez who had some 25 witnesses who would purportedly support her story but were never interviewed by the FBI.
Again the inference in all this is that the Trump administration failed to investigate this stuff to support Kananaugh. Kavanaugh's detractors appear to have a reasonable case.
Why wouldn't the NYT or other media source follow up with the 25 witnesses then?
It sounds like the witnesses turned out to be even more "purported" than first thought.

The Times later issued an editor’s note and updated the story to say that the female student in the second episode declined to be interviewed and said that her friends said she doesn’t recall the episode.
If they just put this in the initial write-up it wouldn't look like they're covering up the truth, but they do cover-up the truth. First the sensationalist story. Then later, quietly reveal information that disputes their "facts."
It's going to keep happening unless he sues them all up the wazoo.
At this point, he'd be wise to stay above it.
Most people already made their minds up about it and most moderates have grown tired of what is obviously a string of uncorroborated allegations with zero proof.

Bet those lawyers interviewed those 25 people before putting their names on a list for the FBI.
The person it happened to declined to say a word to anyone. I can see why.
The best part is that this re-energizes the conservative base. It's a great reminder how disingenuous the left and liberal media are.
