Could it be changed and/or refuted one day? I suppose so- there was also a time when science showed that a cancer diagnosis was a death sentence; now it's different. But the science teachers have to teach what the current scientific truth is. What choice do they have?

Yeah well that isn't really the issue most have, now is it? The issue many have is indoctrination where some teachers are actually zealots and teach not science but emotion and opinion. We are seeing this at the University level and now its creeping into the public school systems. The regurgitate or fail style of indoctrination.
