12 years for defending himself. Say hello to crime and chaos. I hope the governor commutes the sentence. That's what I would do.
She had every right to defend herself from an unidentified target. Or are you saying that just because he is a police officer that he had more right to defend himself then she did?

How is a person outside of your home a "threat" to you?

Same could be said on how a person in a home is a threat to the police officer. That didnt stop the police officer from shooting her.

He lost his right of self-defense vis-a-vis the resident by prowling in her back yard. Twelve years is not excessive.

He might shoot you. Can anyone think of an example of that happening?

They can shoot you, break in and hurt you, set fire to your place with you inside it...

He was a cop resounding to a call for a potential burglary. Then he sees someone pointing a gun at him. How doesn't he have the right to defend himself? At the same time if she had shot him she would also have been innocent because she has the right to defend herself. The whole thing was a screw up of communication. NO ONE should have been found guilty of anything. They just need to implement new procedures to make sure it doesn't happen again.
