And what provision of the Constitution authorizes Congress do this. Animal protections is a state and local issue, only. This is extremely ill-advised.
Given that the states aren't getting the job done - the feds were right to step in here.
[The Congress shall have Power] To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;
As we have discussed many, many times on the subject of amendments and particularly the 2nd, "regulate" does not mean to control or govern. It means to "make regular" or when it is not running smoothly, to step in and make it run smoothly.
A great example would be that shipments of goods down the east coast should run smoothly. But if Virginia wanted to tax all shipments traveling through their state, that would me commerce wasn't "regular". That's when the feds have the power to jump in and fix the problem. Otherwise they keep their nose out of the business of the states.
Please explain how the commerce clause gives the feds any power to do this.
