Not all roses and unicorns though, but putting 3,000 back to work after letting 7,000 go is better than nothing.

The announcement of new blue-collar jobs came about seven months after Ford revealed plans to part ways with 7,000 white-collar workers worldwide, including 2,300 in the U.S. About 1,500 left voluntarily or with buyouts and another 800 were let go, largely in and around the company’s headquarters in Dearborn.

The left wing anti Trump media didn’t tell me about the 7000 jobs lost.

Back in the 70s, those same jobs, needing no college education, would average between 70-80k. Now they average 60,000k?

Yeah.

That was definitely a downer. Same thing happened at GM and Honda. The cost of going green is very expensive.

And of course Trump and his supporters will take/give Trump the credit like the lemmings they are.

The later having a bad image impacts the image of the former, and visa versa. Building up its home base, literal Detroit, will do wonders for metaphoric Detroit as it helps to make the area attractive to the best and brightest Engineers, software developers, designers, managers, etc, etc. If Ford wants to attract high tech talent, it has to be located in an areas that high tech nerds find appealing. All the divestment, years back, that they Big Three did from the Detroit area kind of shot them in the foot because it allowed the area to become depressed and unattractive to many. Now.....Detroit is on the upswing and has been for over a decade now.

The trend in any manufacturing is less workers. Automation eliminated most jobs in the Auto Industry and it will be responsible for the elimination of even more jobs in the future. There is a major shift going on in the industry from the old combustible engines to electric battery powered vehicles. This is going to cause upheaval, along with self driving autonomous vehicles. Old plants are not going to have much of a future with new technologies.

Stop with the automation propaganda, manufacturing is much more than just assembly line jobs. Automation started taking hold in the 70's, and sure , those that didn't want to adapt got the boot but it also created many jobs. I've been in the automotive industry for 30 years, my dad was in it for 42 years. I know many people in the industry and not a single one lost a job due to automation. I've known plenty that lost their jobs because they simply no longer existed in this country...they got shipped to China, Mexico or India.
