Swing and a miss, there, Bob.

This has nothing to do with our President, honestly. It has everything to do with market forces and Ford's decision to stop selling cars (other than the Mustang) to the US domestic market.

Trump will be in Michigan tonite for a rally in front of an overcrowded arena. I bet he brings it up! That's what happens in a record economy, he's created.

Another lovefest.

Why haven't those 2 Democratic Senators in Michigan created any jobs there? oh that's right, they've been tied up with impeaching the President the last few years.

After 10 years of recovery, we should be seeing major expansion from most corporations. It's about time.

Oh look! Credit to Trump unsupported by fact! As if the tax incentives granted by the state of Michigan had nothing to do with Detroit winning out over other locations.

But no worries, given enough time, the believers will no doubt credit Dear Leader with creating the universe.

I have to agree with this. And as great as the 3k jobs are, people need to realize that the combination of those 3000, computerization, automation, and leaner manufacturing practices mean that they will accomplish the work that would have employed 3 to 5 times as many people 40 years ago. And they'll do it without 20 to 25 year employment leading to another 40 years of guaranteed benefits.

Yeah.
And that is why the U.S. auto manufacturing disappeared, that and low quality once Europe and Japan started producing good quality vehicles. I have an Uncle, now retired fortunately, who had one of those 70k Union Jobs and he would talk about getting together with his work friends at BBQ's and laughing about how much more they made than teachers or police and doing no real work for it.

Last time I looked, Ford's stock price was $9.44 per share and Facebook's was $203.67 per share.

Ford is a major manufacturer employing about 250,000 people worldwide not counting the people employed by its suppliers and Facebook employed 29,000 worldwide. A lot of Facebook's employees are in India involved in checking and censoring posts.

What these statistics imply is that manufacturing has little or no value and service companies like Facebook are the new goliaths. The modern world is screwed up.

The interesting part of that story to me is that they're planning to produce autonomous vehicles by 2021.

Yeah....the industry is producing way more vehicles.....with way fewer workers. Best believe that in the not to distant future that thousands of more Ford assembly workers will lose their jobs. The industry is moving to tech workers and Engineers. The Detroit area should see a big growth in software developers and a different discipline of engineers.

If this was true, why did middle classes suddenly emerge in the low cost countries that we sent our manufacturing to ?

Is an $85 million dollar a year industry something to sneeze at ? Is employing 30 million people little to no value ? How can that many people be employed when it's all automated ?! Sorry, you've got it all wrong. The sad part, is we just gave this all away...
