So now that they had tea with Carter, all of a sudden everything is going to be okay in the Middle East? Why did he hold back all these years? Was he just watching with amusement as people kept fighting knowing that he had the answer all along?
I would love to think that he was able to accomplish something meaningful, and if he did, I will give him full credit. I simply do not trust Hamas enough to be very optimistic at this point.
For Hamas to be a "neighbor" of Israel, they have to represent a functioning state. What they have is a bomb-making factory and terrorist training camp, where everyone lives on handouts.

I actually think he was there at the bidding of the administration, because they could reap the benefits and still lay on the criticism. Might be the smartest move Bush made in a long time.
carters diplomacy will be found to be as ineffective in 2008, as it was in 1979. his capitulation to the ayatollah then, led to the need to take care of the iranian problem today. if we do not end irans nuke plans, i certainly hope the jews do. he is a weakling seeking a world stage, in order to fight off the increasing senility that he wakes to every day. he is the worst president since the ascencion of the usa, as a world power; a hopeless idealist on the wrong side of history. he should stick to building homes for the needy.

Yeah, he should just give up. I mean why even try?

Well, because he is an unelected figure who takes on sensitive policy tasks without any authorization.
Think about it. Do you want Bush heading off to negotiate with whoever and without any authorization from the government 10 or 20 years from now? He'll have as much "right" as Carter does now, which is to say none.

Ah, the slippery slope shows itself, eh?
You mean like how Bush signed the north american union act without the permission of congress and the American people?
So should we be happy if Hamas who has lied more than most people are saying Israel has a right to exist. We all know Israel has a right to exist and I have been reading in European newspapers in which Hamas is quoted they are willing to sign a truth for 10 years, what kind of deal is that. 10 years and than bombs again. It is a truth or not.
