It would also appear the market was none too impressed with Pence taking up the lead dog position on the government's virus initiative otherwise there surely would have been a positive reaction...

Xi is doing what the CCP believes is in the best interest of china. Of course they know how much it would cost China in terms of lost gdp production. But they want to make sure the disease doesn’t spread. It’s to china’s credit that they are able to contain it in wuhan and hubai province. The question is where did the disease originate? China is not the place of origin.

Bernie Sanders would be good for the economy. Higher wages mean more spending and bigger profits.

Don’t forget the Demand Side of the equation.

Democratic candidates are using this in their political ads against Trump. So yes, they are politicizing it.

The two stock markets that should be doing worse - the two Chinese ones, where the virus is the worst and where it first appeared - are actually doing better than the US market!

This tells you there is/was something else wrong with the US markets, and that the virus was merely a catalyst to expose those other problems.

And that "something else" is that the US stock market has been in a bubble for at least two years. The virus is nothing more than the pin that popped the bubble. If the virus had not come along, it would still have popped, sooner or later.

Honest to God, at this point I think there's some kind of disconnect somewhere.

Either this is a balls to the walls world wide pandemic .. or a minor case of something flu-like in most people.

Which is it?
Calling out the national guard seems like an over reaction unless the governor of Washington knows more than what is in the news.

That's the disconnect (if that's what you want to call it). It's not a one size fits all type of thing.

You mean like these?

That’s it I’m getting my plague doctor mask and suit. The end is near. In a month the guy will be coming by with his cart calling “bring our your dead”.

I just saw a neighbor out with her mask on. Hysteria has become common. This is not 1345 and this is not the Black Death.
