Look, if even China shut down their economy trying to combat this disease, (the CCP is the last government in the world to put humanitarian concerns over economic strength) that is a clear indicator that this thing could potentially be very devastating if we just carried on with business as usual.

The Chicom's handling of this looked more like a coverup than any real concern for the public's safety. Commies don't care about people, and that's been demonstrated all throughout history. They do care about money and whether the world will accept/tolerate their lies.
Hmm, why am I suddenly thinking of orange things? Hmm.
I hear that Fargo, N.D. and Lincoln, Nebraska have zero cases of this virus. Contrast that with the democratic controlled hellhole of NYC.
There are towns and counties scattered all over the nation that haven't reported any cases yet.
Yet. That's the operative word.
The virus has a long incubation period, and the victims don't feel sick for quite a while. But it is extremely infectious.
No one will know just how many cases there are until there are enough tests available to check anyone who thinks they have it. And those tests have to be done quickly after the swabs are taken to know how many infected people there actually are who haven't sought out medical help.
Given all that, it's only a matter of time before every county in the nation has at least one victim of this epidemic.
Staying home gives the medical community some time to prepare before the wave of new cases comes crashing down on them. Hopefully, within the next 2-4 weeks, that wave won't be a tsunami like it was in New York, but we won't know until it hits how much the self-isolation helped.
All the other pandemics that have come have not been close to as infectious as this one, and this virus is more lethal than the others that were as infectious.
Medicine has come a long way since those pandemics you mentioned, lovecrowds.
Trying to compare 1958 to 2020 is nonsensical.
We need to hide as long as it takes for hospitals to get their ICUs ramped up and to get all the backordered medical protection equipment in place. Once they are comfortably there, then you start easing people out.
I'm sure we don't put medical people in the position of choosing to save a 25 year old vaper over your 85 grandmother.
In their “closed cases” section, worldometer is showing almost 110,000 recoveries. Unfortunately, they are also showing 19,000+ deaths, which makes the case fatality rate a whopping 15%.
So, the mere statistic of over 100,000 may be true and absolutely dismal at the same time. In fact, we could say: OMFG only 100,000 recoveries!!!!

And whatever number of people that have recovered are only because they remained at home and away from groups of people. Let’s not kid ourselves if we start going back to work, too soon it’s highly possible it might start up all over again.
