I agree it’s different. Its more contagious and can be transmitted fairly easily. What then, if you were the media, would you say to the public knowing that people were dying at normal flu rates from an unknown virus?
Well if I were in the media, I can tell you what I would do. I would report the latest facts on the pandemic: how many new cases, etc. I would report on how this was impacting the community. I would report on what the government was doing about it. I would report on what President Trump said at his latest press conference. And I would highlight the inspiring stories of health workers who are risking their life to save others.
I guess I would do exactly what the media is doing.
With all this hype, all this terror, panic, end-of-the-world sensationalism that we are being fed day after day by the media. Is there any chance, given their history of trying this before, that they are using a common cold/flu to literally destroy our economy?
CNN leads the way when it comes to One Story Journalism, choosing to grasp the hot button du jour and run with it until they can't no more. What concerns me though is that there's a deeper plot going on. One that has been tried before recently and failed. Perhaps this is another attempt at destroying the economy for the sake of political change?
If that turns out to be the case, how can we hold them accountable?
If I've told y'all (not you, specifically, everyone) once, I've told y'all a million times (kay, not a million, but a lot) STOP WATCHING THAT STUFF. IT ISN'T GOOD FOR YOU!!
The news media cable news in particular is not good for you. I realize you (specifically you) are a realtor, and work (literally) all the time, but in between potentials calling you with "can you show me that house you've already shown me a hundred times already? I can't quite make up my mind." Just read your news.
The economic carnage will last for generations, and mainly affect the service sector folks, who are not swamped with alternative employment options. Simply put, industries will permanently shrink, requiring far fewer employees..permanently.
The short-term thinking right now is a giant mistake.
It will last for generations, but it will impact nearly every industry and sector to some degree, NO ONE is totally immune, the pandemic is a global one, so most other countries have wen thru the same things.
Dominoes falling is the best way to describe whats going to happen in the US in the near future, even companies and sectors that appear to be doing great...they will be dragged down with the rest of the sinking ship, they are not enough to prevent collapse.

So, since you and BobNJ1960 are sure the United States will completely collapse within a year or so and cannot be saved, what are you going to do? Head for Canada? Russia? South Africa? Venezuela? Bora Bora? Argentina?
Or stay here, become a Prepper, and get ready for the cave man society you're sure is coming?
Oh Lord, again with the flu comparison. No, it's not the flu. Please, please do your research before you keep touting things that aren't true. Tell me in what year there were 200,000 flu deaths in a few months' time?
Almost every year. Some years are worse than others, but this flu will be just like the other novel flu viruses of past. This ones nasty but will soon be a part of our yearly flu shot.

Headlines as I read your post: Trump faces scrutiny over West Point address.

Most restaurants in my area are still open though they have temporarily laid off their staffs. They have every intention of rehiring their folks off of unemployment as soon as they get the all clear.

I don’t subscribe to any periodicals, I don’t even know if we have a “paper” here anymore. I rely not only on cable news, though with a grain of salt. I also seek out more neutral online sources as well. And yes, I work constantly lol.
