And to a large degree the Times defended the conclusions.

Note also that, contrary to the youtube, How to quickly call the police was well known in that time. You simply dialed zero and asked for the police. You would be immediately connected.
The Times was then, is now, like the National Enquirer. They fabricated the Genovese narrative.

Pure BS. The NY Times then was the American journal of record and still is.

In the Genovese affair all of the questionable things came from Police Reports.

Could well be.

As the old saying goes, Emergency law is often bad law.

Everyone who signed those relief bills into effect are practicing a form of socialism.
Yup. That's what makes it bad law.

I'm just trying to understand why the media played it the way they did. Was it intentional or just sensationalism?
Not "or". It was intentional "and" sensationalist.

What an utterly-ignorant, buffoonish thing to say. Shame on you.

Oh Lord, again with the flu comparison. No, it's not the flu. Please, please do your research before you keep touting things that aren't true. Tell me in what year there were 200,000 flu deaths in a few months' time?

Overall, we rate the New York Times Left-Center biased based on word and story selection that moderately favors the left, but highly factual and considered one of the most reliable sources for news information due to proper sourcing and well respected journalists/editors. The failed fact checks that occurred were on Op-Ed’s and not straight news reporting. (5/18/2016) Update (M. Huitsing 9/18/2019)rom the reference...

The problem is that when the media has shown such a leftwing bias and anti-Trump bias since day 1, I treat them as being a hostile force and not one to be trusted. Thus, the premise of the OP wouldn't surprise me. The media as a whole has a long way before it re-earns the trust of the American people.
