Most people now consider President Bush’s No Child Left Behind initiative, a failure. Teachers complain that the narrow focus on standardized testing , makes students test takers instead of critical thinkers. School curriculum gets restricted, as everything that doesn’t have to do with getting kids to pass the math and reading tests gets jettisoned. The number of high school dropouts has increased.

Public schools must regularly test students' math and reading skills. Those test scores are used to determine whether schools have met their standards. Schools that fail to do so and show no signs of improvement from one year to the next face the firing of the entire teaching staff and even the closing of the school.

Annual testing does nothing to improve schools and student performance. It focuses on punishment, negative labels, and threats. It places too little emphasis on the social causes of poor school performance. It does nothing to improve the curriculum, reduce class size, decrease school size, increase parental involvement, create after-school programs, diminish school violence, lessen absenteeism, or increase funding.

Yeah, polar caps melting, ocean levels rising, weather spiraling out of control - it's funny, right? - really funny.

I didn't see excellent schools before No Child Left Behind. Teachers just don't like the idea of getting a report card.

My vote goes to the appointment of two excellent supreme court justices.

Though his failures far outweigh his achievements, he has had a few:

The creation of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Marine National Monument - first new National Monument in quite some time and the largest single conservation area ever created (with 4,500 miles of coral reef habitate placed under protection).

The initial handling of Afghanistan (before we got bogged down in Iraq) was handled quite well (Iraq - well, that's a WHOLE 'nother story).

While some may give him credit for North Korea giving up their A-bomb, the truth is, the ONLY reason North Korea gave up their program is because their much-publicized bomb test was an embarrassing fizzle - so it really wasn't an achievment at all for the administration, but rather the North Koreans' simply facing the fact that their push for a nuclear weapon has been a clear failure so instead they are trying to get something from the US in return for giving up a program that has failed anyway. I don't consider that a success.

Ken

I'm angry Bush has done nothing to secure the borders, especially after 9-11. Not only do we have to worry about the terrorists crossing the borders, but the Illegal aliens are flooding into the U.S. by the millions with no end in sight.(Thanks Bush)! It's taking a toll on the American taxpayers and is killing the middle class. How much more of the third world do we have to support? We will eventually become a third world country too, if nothing is done... Besides the fact Americans are losing their own culture...It's not politically correct to have pride in our own American culture!

Bush helped the terrorist groups like Al-Queda gain more members.
Bush helped unite our enemies.
Bush passed medicare part - D........adding to trillions dollar of debt.
Bush waged a terrible war........adding to trillion dollars of debt.
Bush helped weaken our security ......leading to 3000 american death on sept 11, and 4000 soliders deathin Iraq and more than 20,000 american soliders injured(like losing a arm or parts of brain etc)
Open borders........to allow possible terrorist to come and blow another building in U.S

Isn't this a pattern of a person who hates america? God! What did we do to make Bush so angry at America?
