Will we ever bring this country back from the brink of extremism? its really scary what's going on. We don't have moderates anymore its either you join my party ideology or you're a traitor and get primaried voted out.

We need a voice of reason candidate I think Biden is as close as we can get at this point. But even he will prob be controlled by the fringe sad.

I believe there will be, yes.

I'm not trying to turn this in to my extremism is less dangerous than yours.

I study past president a lot FDR, JFK, Reagan they never had this type of fringe to deal with sure you had Huey long but no one ever took him serious and a few others

Now its every nightmarish thing you can imagine is coming to fruition I long for the days for a sane president who can unite everyone Red and Blue kinda like GWB did for a short period during 9/11

Can you please explain for us what you think "moderate politics" is? Aside from appeasement and capitulation and agreeing to meaningless deals just so we can say that we reached an agreement?

Can you please explain how your idea of "moderate politics" is constructive and effective problem solving for our people and the world, and not just a never-ending, mind-numbing bureaucratic process that in truth generally only serves itself?

Because those moderate politics you described above work a lot better than having a bunch of right wing rubes (who are being played by the 1%) spending all their time being outraged at a bunch of left wing wackos (that think money comes out of thin air) who are aggrieved by the right wing nuts who are outraged at them.

Sounds like what we have now and what we've had for many years.

Moderate politics means responsible government. Responsible government is one that serves the people and works toward the public good. And that means things actually get accomplished. Unlike with the relentless bureaucratic gridlock we have (I'm talking Republicans AND Democrats).

We had moderate politics in the 1940s when we fought (and won) WWII, in the booming 1950s, in the early 60s, and even, for the most part, in the 70s and 80s. America wasn't constructive for 5 decades?

Obama? It started with him playing to the extremes and class warfare. Thats when it really went off the rails.

Exactly. Trump is pretty moderate on policies. Its only his personality that is extreme.

We get back to moderate politics if Trump and the Republicans crush the insane Democrats. Republicans will not nominate another Trump in 2024 and the Democrats will either move to the middle or become a permanent minority left wing socialist party (which will make the Republicans more moderate from the defections).

And here we have the hardline approach.

No moderate politics is seeking a consensus, a give and take that is acceptable to all. Not perfect to all, not an all or nothing approach, as we have seen in the latest round of stimulus talks.

Jack Kemp was a Moderate. McCaine was a moderate. On the left. Jim Webb Moderate and others like him. People willing to work with the other side for the betterment of the nation.

People on the left like to invoke the name JFK . Let's be honest, JFK wouldn't get elected by the democrats today to be a dog catcher. Why? Because he firmly believed ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. He wasn't a perfect man, but at least he was willing to find solutions.
