Believe what you will. That does not change the fact that the comment was very much in keeping with what we know about Trump's personality from his past remarks. He has no love for the military.
No, it's in keeping with the lies and character assassination the media has done to Trump. The Atlantic article has been proven to be full of lies. Real reporters have done FOIA requests that show the article and the sources lied.

Yeah. the article is a lie that they claimed took place in 2018. If this were true, they would have brought it up in 2018, or at least during the impeachment.
