So, no peaceful protesters have ever been tear-gassed? You sure about that?
I don't think they were handing out "gas masks" were they? I didn't see it.
Sometimes people who may not be currently actually engaging in violent or destructive behavior might get some peripheral exposure to smoke ect (police generally don't use actual tear gas) .
But......most of the time this happens when a riot has been declared and a lawful order to disperse is given and people ignore the order.
Once the order is given and you don't leave.......
You're not a protestor anymore......you are a rioter.

And it wouldn't surprise me at all if many of the "peaceful protesters" by day are also violent rioters by night.
