Well, it is the NYT making the claim, so the burden is on them to present the evidence.
If the NYT posted false information about Trump he could sue them for millions for libel and defamation. I haven’t even heard him threaten with a law suit. One of the most litigious people in history and yet this “lying” news publication gets off the hook? Why? Unless....gasp. Because what they reported is factual.

If the article was false, why would Trump not simply go back to his old saw about "fake news" instead of accusing them of having obtained the information illegally?
The article may be just the tip of the iceberg of information they are sitting on. If he sues, either he or the NYT will have to produce the information in court to prove their case. Either way, Trump loses.
All he had to do is release one page from one year of his return to disprove NYT and this whole thing would be over and he'd have delivered a knockout punch to the MSM.
He isn't doing it. Wonder why.
.
I wonder why the NYT article that included the $5MM payments he had made just said "most of it" was rolled over instead of just putting a $ figure on it.
I am voting from Trump but I would not be surprised if this is not true.
It's semantics, but one can truthfully say he DID pay millions. He actually gave the Treasury ~ $5MM over 2 years for his estimated tax due when he filed for extensions.
His tax obligation became $0 due to credits for prior losses. His accountant just filled in $750 each year (who knows how that # was chosen). But rather than get the $5MM refunded, he let the Treasury keep "most of the money" to be applied to future obligations.
Has the NYT presented any actual evidence of anything yet?
They will when Trump's lawsuit makes it to trial.
There will be no lawsuit.

Which Trump will never do. Trump will never incriminate himself willingly. He will hide everything, it is in his nature to hide. That is why he makes everyone sign non-disclosure agreements. The man is a secrecy freak and we can see why. He is filthy to the core, a totally self-indulgent warped individual.
Also, remember what Trump said about people who plead the Fifth?
‘If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth?’
Donald J. Trump
That was projection, Trump would plead the Fifth because he had something to hide. It's about self incrimination. Trump knows all about that.
Trump knows knowledge is power, so he strives to keep his followers ignorant to protect his power over them.
As to Trump's finances and his debt obligations, the man is so totally compromised that he would never have received a security clearance if he had applied for a job with our government. Such a person is under great risk of becoming compromised and coerced by outside nefarious forces. In other words, these people have power over Trump. Anyone Trump owes money to who sees an opportunity in manipulating the US government, these can 'call in' a favor from our crook in chief.

Assuming that what he was doing was legal, it begs further questions about his self-proclaimed success as a businessman no?
